Crumbs
It was while I was
sitting alone
at a table for two
and staring
into the depths of
my second
double espresso ..
I tried to
make some sense
of all
the crumbs my
breakfast
croissant had left
behind,
on the side plate ..
It was also
the same moment
I thought,
if I was to try hard
enough ..
I might just find a
certain
familiar face again ..
But failed
just as miserably,
as I had
done yesterday ..
And the day
before that even ..
In fact, all
I could see through
the tears
and the steam was
the back
of your torn leather
sandal strap
and frayed hems
of blue jeans ..
Each caressing your
Achilles
and all that then
remained of your
exquisite vulnerability ..

Poetry gathers up the crumbs and tenders the same as the delicacy they truly are on the silver platter. The heartbreaking poignancy of this piece resonates and is rather exquisite. Excellently detailed and beautifully rendered. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for checking in and taking a peek .. kind regards, Neville
What a beautiful expression here !
Many thanks indeed .. Neville
Moments when the heart and mind are drifting in a sea of what has gone before. Someone is painfully missed. Only the crumbs remain. Beautifully penned Neville. Hope you had a fantastic holiday. Good to find you back.
Bless you Cassie & I do mean that .. Unfortunately got stranded in Zagreb for two days after BA cancelled my return flight without notice or explanation .. cost an absolute bomb for hotels and taxi and dog holiday fees and loads of other things .. but yes, I had a lovely time in Croatia once my business in Bulgaria was sorted .. Hope you have been keeping well .. AGT's Neville
What an awful end to your holiday Neville but so pleased that your time in Bulgaria and Croatia was lovely. I am well, thank you for asking. Trust you are too. Welcome back.
Excellent
Nice one ta T .. Neville
You're welcome
Wow! This profoundly sad scene was filled with longing. Trying to remember someone, but not able to reconstruct the entire image, but recalling only a small fragment, enough to bring back the sense of her "vulnerability." Even the "crumbs of " your "croissant" would not cooperate. A tender and poignant moment laid out in free verse and capturing the poetic moment. - Phil A.
Thanks a million Hawkeye .. so very much appreciated you might never know just how much .. Neville
That you would speak of such things shows that for at least for a moment all was right. 🌹

Emotive words Neville, it reminded me of the times after my wife died when I was sitting at the dining table eating alone.

Thank you kindly my friend .. Neville
A master class on how the mundane can be made seductive and sensual, Not just sexual but to the mind pulling it in closer and arrousing interest and a desire for closure. Lovely Neville
so very many special thanks my friend .. Neville
A fine write, Neville. Emotion, sentiment, all just perfectly captured. Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom & please excuse my late response, I have been somewhat tied up and elsewise preoccupied .. Neville
