Devil Plays the Fiddle

Teddy.15

Flawless beauty elegance of a swan

but behind her eyes

there’s something wrong?

I feel her pain even as she glides

a wasp swarm uninvited

 has invading her insides

stinging her profusely without remorse

yet she holds her dignity

 with her elegance and  force

as I look closely in the mirror

I can see...

the devil plays the fiddle

and the ballerina is me

behind my eyes he’s a rampant beast

the fiddle he plays devouring his feast

if only, if only the mirror wasn’t there

my reflection is in front

oh how helplessly I stare.

The devil would be in her feet and diet denial - the pain and torture involved in the production of such beauty...
    First hand experience, Teddy?

    • Teddy.15

First hand pain yeh, but I suppose we all have, haven't you? ๐ŸŒน

      • Doggerel Dave

No, never been a been a ballet dancer... though I knew someone once who was.

        • Teddy.15

The ballerina a metaphor in this Dave, delicate and fragile. ๐ŸŒน

I mostly find reality so much more interesting, Teddy. Metaphor Iโ€™m happy with as a very thinly applied seasoning.
Now I can understand that I will encounter metaphor everywhere on a poetry site and a good argument could be presented that if I donโ€™t like it perhaps I should leave, but my cup of tea is rhyming verse plus some comedy because life can be comic from time to timeโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

But as a metaphor, I'll willingly concede a well writ piece.

You sound like a dictator dear Dave it's not cool, but thanks for your last lines geez so glad I got away with my metaphor and free verse ๐Ÿคฃ

              • Cassie58

Such a contrast here dear Teddy, between the beautiful, delicate ballerina and that devil playing fiddle. Your lines evoked strong emotions here. A delight reading one of your older poems. I love the variety in your writing. You have such wonderful creativity of thinking. Hope you are having wonderful sunshine, as we are today. ๐ŸŒน

Dearest Cassie, I am truly humbled by your beautiful words, I like to try all themes and I am so thrilled when others can see it, thank you so much. It's like winter here, I don't ever remember a time when we have gone from 40c to 10 c over night, loads of rain and it's pretty weird weather. Happy Sunday my dear friend. ๐ŸŒน

This brought images of my eldest daughter. She has done well in life but divulged to me lately that her greatest regret is that she didn't pursue ballet. She was built for it in size and shape and was told over and over by those in ballet that she had all it took.Loved the poem and its twist of the devil. Sometikes one must sell their soul to be great.

Awe, that's so sad, but sometimes things just aren't meant to be, thank you so much for sharing this with us dearest sorrenbarret ๐ŸŒน I am quite sure she has done other amazing things though. โค๏ธ

Touches a warm spot for a ballerina I lost many years ago to inner pain also. Thank you for this.

                    • Teddy.15

Sweet Dan, I didn't see this, yes I believe this is relatable to many, my 20's were hard core, I was really lost because of grief and bad love a combination I am quite an expert at, i found my own exit and for now live happily ever after but only because I have much self will. And it is clear you do too. ๐ŸŒน

When you look in the mirror you never see the real you, you see yourself in an opposite aspect Teddy.

In my 20's yes, I was lost for many reasons, but without a single bit of help from anyone I got through it, this being one of my poems of that time, I taught myself so much. thank you dearest Andy. ๐ŸŒน

But what the devil doesn't know is that the ballerina will play a tune on his fiddle that will scare the bejesus out of him. Dance on my lovely ballerina. ๐ŸŒน

the verses written in our youth are much more open and one feels the pain more deeply -and i think age mellows us down, and makes us reflect..

Thank you so much in my case I had to change many things including country, but yes I totally agree the things I stressed about in my 20's were much different to those in my 40's we live we learn and we build strength, life teaches me something every single day. Thank you so much for coming by to leave such wisdom. ๐ŸŒน
