Fire and Ice

Jerry Reynolds

Standing so close to the fire
A heart defends itself with ice
Gone now is the desire
To feel the kisses fire
The wall of love—crumbles thrice
Before the cannonballs of hate
The castle-keep becomes Ice
Hope of ceasefire may well be great
Goodbye may have to suffice

Emotions are like that, sometimes hot sometimes cold. Protection from what is a percieved threat can flip the tables. A poem with a smoldering finish
