One With Everything

Tom Dylan

Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
I AM ON HOLIDAY IN OCTOBER. NORMAL SERVICE WILL BE RESUMED WHEN I GET BACK. :-)

Sorry if there is a delay in replying or if I'm away for short periods. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon says, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.

or Stark Raven Mad

I sometimes wonder how I can have

so many wide and varied interests.

What connects all these things?

But then it strikes me that perhaps

there is a connection,

a thread connecting everything,

like those police investigation boards

you see on television cop shows,

red ribbons linking the suspects to the crime.

How can there be a connection between

poetry and literature, American sport,

rock music and martial arts?

What connects all these things?

American sport has its roots in university and colleges,

with links to higher education, literature and the arts.

The NFL team Baltimore Ravens were named

after the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.

The founder of Shotokan Karate

called his martial art Shoto after the pen-name

under which he wrote poetry.

Elvis was a black-belt and blended Karate

moves as part of his stage routine,

his jump-suits more than resemble a Karate gi.

Ian Brown of the Stone Roses band

is 1st Dan in several martial arts,

he can be seen spinning kicks on stage.

Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan consider themselves

to be primarily poets rather than entertainers,

in fact Cohen started out reciting his poetry.

John Lennon wrote poetry, publishing two volumes

when the Beatles were at the height of their fame.

And in his song I Am the Walrus, he mentions Edgar Allen Poe.

What connects all these things?

To quote Ted Hughes in his poem Crow,

Me, evidently.

In this world all things are connected.
      Great thoughts

      • Tom Dylan

Yes, that is exactly what occurred to me. I have all these apparently different interests, but there are all these connections running through everything. Thanks for your comments. Cheers, Tom.

Or....(sorry about this...) maybe not link them, but let each develop in their own special way, free of the others lest they hold one another back.......
        Accumulate.. discharge.. renew.. change.

        • Tom Dylan

Yeah, I hear you, Dave. Nice one. 🙂

Ooh! This is a beauty, taking the reader on a journey through so many avenues threaded together by both the original thought and also their related parts. Very lovely and excellently rendered with a very subtle poignancy and a fascination which never loses its hold, concluding so perfectly. I love it! Thank you so very much for sharing!

Thanks so much, Missy. Really appreciated. My interests are varied but I got to thinking there are links between them all if you look closely. Cheers, Tom.

Those strange connections are within us all Tom, if somebody had told me in 2007 that I would be writing poetry I would have laughed at them, I now have nearly 4,000 that I have written.

Good on you, Andy. And nearly 4000 that's some going. I've been writing stories for years, but poetry has always held this fascination. This time last year I bit the bullet and threw myself in the deep end. 🙂 Cheers, Tom.
