The Catch in A Love Song .. & Upon Turning the Other Cheek

Neville

The Catch in A Love Song

Maybe because,

or in spite of all our loops

we somehow

manage to find ourselves

   here again ..

Back where we each feel

we belong

   and are most comfortable ..

Looking back

there was no afterwards

   was there ..

We were just so fucking

   full on ..

And although it may seem

crazy now,

you were so hot I wrote you

   into a love song ..

Upon Turning the Other Cheek

Having already hurt him

and big time ..

He offered up the other

cheek, but still

he let her wash his feet

and dry them,

with her hair and shawl

as some kind

of penance, or reward ..

She got real

turned on by that and so

he made

them both bleed more ..

No it doesn’t

hurt he said, and after all,

it is only pain

and not like my losing you ..

Now you are just being two cheeky

Two for one what a bargain. The first hit me as so typical of relationships all woven in time with crossings and falling back, loopes leaving us back at cross roads and renewals. It is its ending line that shows you to be a poet at heart. The second so full of references to Christ and Mary and the relation of it to a present relationship where pain is not in what one does to the other but in the potential loss of the other. Once again the last line is the clincher. Nice Neville will miss your poems hurry back

[We will definitely miss you, Sir; please don't be absent for long.] Fascinating with so much to contemplate, as well as what aka Soren already excellently noted, the second seeming clearly an echo of that incident in the gospels, methinks I'm insufficiently awake yet to comment properly. Beautifully rendered with a haunting poignancy only heightened by the allusion and excellent imagery. Thank you for sharing.
