On that beach Orchi and Goldie were sat,
Me drinking my whisky, without water,
Orchi eating his pork pie with no fat
While Fido around the beach did potter.
We looked out to the sea and saw all the ships
Filled with those Normans to conquer our land,
But all was well as Harold to us skips
With all his soldiers riding in a band.
But Orchi ruined it all in his way
And told Harold to look up in the sky,
An arrow came down from within the fray
And struck that poor Harold right in his eye.
So from that fine day in ten sixty six
The fault of Harolds death with Orchi sticks.

- Comment from author about the poem: Yes it was Orchi that told Harold to look up that day. Also I have put these words on the correct day not early like Orchi!!!

Did you have to pay to get in to see the battle? Wonder what it would have been like if Harold had wone? Fun read Gold
Thank you soren, no we were just sitting on the beach when the ships came from the sea and the soldiers rode over the hill.
Yes what if....? History is written by the winners.
Andy
History alas, is both the most relevant but contestable of the Social Sciences......
So true Dave, history is written by the winners.
Andy
So woz you a winner here, Andy?
So...one of my brothers told me we're more Norman than Scot since we're Gordon, at least on Daddy's side, and guess his marrying Mommy fixed the great divide. Ergo, you're not still mad at me, are you?
Beautifully rendered with a waltzing poignancy and delightful sense of good humor. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you Missy, no I am not mad at you, LOL
Thank you.
Andy
