The Last Word

Tom Dylan

Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
Sorry if there is a delay in responses. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon said, life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

There’s a saying around here

I don’t know if you’ve heard

they say never p*ss off a writer,

we always have the last word.

Swaggering around the golf course

that’s just you to a tee,

with your fancy friends all dressed the same,

and you dare to poke fun at me?

You dine in the city’s finest restaurants

and sip your champagne on ice,

you’re a nasty piece of work,

would it kill you to be nice?

You read the morning papers

while your cleaner does your chores

and critique and slate my poems

well, let’s hear one of yours.

You look down your nose,

passing comment on the way I look,

this poem is me telling you

I don’t give a damn.

Who’s the β€œyou,” Tom?! Or would that better be left unsaid?

    • Tom Dylan

Haha!! That would be telling! πŸ™‚

I love how I was lulled into the rhyme to be hit in the face with the last line and the emphasis it gained by non rhyme. Some fun with wording as well in the play on words. Very nice Tom two thumbs up

Thanks a lot, Soren. I was a little bit miffed this week and this kinda wrote itself. Thanks so much as always for your comments.

Go for it , Man. You have the skills and depth to demolish him in a word duel anytime. Wollopers and wankers come and go, but keep your instrument finely tuned and it's them that looses the plot.

          • Tom Dylan

Thanks so much, Dave. Really appreciate the support, mate. And wollopers! Love that word!

Yes, didn't they feign "the pen is mightier than the sword" only because we could, as my late mother warned me too many years ago, slice, dice and cut down to minutest pieces with... words. And poets and poetesses don't go silent when they kick the bucket either. That's the beauty of prophets, shall we say? This pretty number is more than hardhitting. Oh! But you've tidily wrapped whomever thus addressed superbly. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a delightfully haunting, striking poignancy. Thank you very much for sharing!

Thanks so much for your comments, Missy. Sometimes I do think, right, then, I'll write a poem about this. πŸ™‚ Really appreciate your comments as always. Cheers, Tom.

                  You're welcome Tom

That's telling them Tom. And I know what you mean by it almost wrote itself. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Thanks so much, AP. Yeah, people seem to think they can say just what they like, and I thought I'd write about it. And yeah a short while later I had a bit of a rant that rhymed. πŸ™‚

And just as bad - plagiarisers? Who pinch someone else's words and pass them off as one's own. It incurs poet's wrath.

                      • Tom Dylan

Yes, I've only had that happen to me once. Someone posted a story of mine as their own on another story website. Cheek! I wrote a story about a murder and the motive was that the victim had pinched the murderer's novel. πŸ™‚

                        • orchidee

Someone, not on this site, actually put a photo of themselves on a poem, having pinched words from someone else!

                          • Tom Dylan

Shocking! I don't know why anyone would do it. My writing maybe random, but at least it's my own.

So many do not agree with us poets Tom but if that happens to me I find that apathy is a great weapon.

If it woz me, then I apologise .. if it woz someone else, then I know a good hit man, so just say the word .. or write it. whatever .. what ever .. Neville

Haha, nah, not you, mate, but you know some people just think they can say what they like to people. I was grumbling about it and turned it into a poem. πŸ™‚
Thanks as always for your comments, mate. Appreciated.

love this poem just a big fuck you to the ones who judge with no self awareness

                                • Tom Dylan

Yes, that's exactly it. Just the lack of self awareness. This poem is my reply. πŸ™‚ Thanks a lot for your comments.
