The opening on Maiden Voyage builds anticipation with Herbie w a series of almost Monk like chords joins then rhythm section first sparsely and then more energetic and has us both transfixed and eager but locked in and just when it seems it’s almost too long the trumpet enters w Freddie injecting the most perfect notes imaginable and we feel gloriously satisfied and then George Coleman treats w a Coltranesque resplendent response and this music is instantly a forever classic.

A beautiful poetic response to an artistic act. Nicely said Bobby.
Jazz is an acquired taste I guess. There are these transcendent moments that are fun to point out. My very favorite , and I believe the Maiden Voyage start was influenced by this , was the start of
SO WHAT, that moment when we first hear Miles on the horn excites me every single time.
True, jazz can be the best think at specific moments!
I rely on it . it has the perfected feel of a Pippen to Jordan fast break
You sure know your stuff .. this aint plain sailin for shore, is it Mr. O ~~~~ ⛵~~~ 🐧👍
God is in the details. If you haven’t listened to it for awhile , I believe a great way to reset , is to listen in one sitting , that famous Miles LP, Kind of Blue. It is the most influential Jazz LP as is paved new ground for Quartet and Quintets. The Modal style empowered each member as a leader a the artistry is evident. Amongst the most spectacular achievements ever was that Miles called several Geniuses together and sketched out the parameters for each song. They all nodded , turned on the recorder and each entry was recorded and set in history as a FIRST TAKE. SERIOUSLY.
when you finish reading this , just listen to the first song , So What and feel the rhythm section almost naked for too long but at the perfect moment yiu hear Miles break in with his horn and it’s Magical , Coltrane takes it all in and followed Miles with a solo that pays homage to the improvisation he just heard and builds on it with an excellence only he could play. Like a Pippen to Jordan Fastbreak
Thanks for playing , my friend.
