Ants

sorenbarrett

Follow a scent trail of what we're ordered until it becomes habit
Swallow rules without question, stomach what we're told
Life sacrificed for a greater number, individuals matter little
How similar is it, that people dance?

Have you ever seen the movie Antz?! I believe you would really enjoy it. That being said, I’m just happy people are dancing

    • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much for the review and kind words. Yes, I have seen the movie ants.

Is that the one where the injured ant couldn’t feel his legs? Princess Bala and all that? It’s been so long ago now. Must watch it again!

All we like ants are up for extermination, that’s how it feels on certain days. And speaking of scents, there were the tiniest of flowers that I caught a whiff of association, a scent that reminded me of bees, while I was walking to the mailbox today.

Thank you Cryptic I appreciate your read and your comments. Yes, I suppose we are all up for extermination eventually all species eventually go extinct.

          In many ways, I'd say.....

          Worth thinking on, Soren.

Fascinating creatures to watch. Amazing workers. They know how to get a job done. Humans by comparison don’t cut the mustard. Multi meanings here. I also thought of world war 1 in particular. Enjoyed my visit.

Thank you, Cassie. You are so right. There are multiple meanings here

A great metaphor, Soren. Much said in very few words. This is certainly how life feels...the endless droning on and on and on. The loss of individuality. Your poem is excellent and causes the reader to pause and reflect! A hallmark of great poetry. You are spot on with this! Well done, my friend! 🙏

              • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for your kind and gracious remark. It is deeply appreciated.

it can be a very big and brave thing thinking outside the box .. but there's nothing selfish about looking at the big picture .. is there .. Neville

                    Great read, 💯
                    Busy, busy little
                    creatures, we are, life sacrificed
                    for a greater number indeed!! 🐜 🐜
                    Great use of metaphor,
                    and a treat to read!!

"Follow a scent trail. swallow rules, life sacrificed," Like sheep to the slaughter. Yet we can "dance." Music and dance are universal and powerful. Maybe, a saving grace of humanity.
