Our Universe
Once, I thought of infinity and went mad.
Now, I contemplate zero and go insane.
Numbers, so large we can’t imagine anything more
when a trillion - trillion light years is right next door.
What could hold more?
When small things, like strings
take a million to make a part
of a part, of a part, of an atom.
How do a million hearts fit in?
The universe expands
while we die… over lands.
Our minds are closed, for to open them
would let in the light that would let us understand
Consider a Universe of universes.
Our Universe expands outward but has a limit
and what lies beyond that?
Imagine being at the edge and seeing
other objects hurtling
towards us. Perhaps another universe expanding
itself outward. Move to another place on our outer ring
and see more objects moving away
but slow enough that we will overtake someday.
Or at another spot a sea of objects in stasis with us
As we move outward they move away.
Consider…. a pulsating universe.
expanding and then contracting
objects smashing and crashing into one another
condensing down to one spot.
The spot from whence it all came.
What is the significance of one man in all of this?
Hardly anything.
Man’s importance lies in his relation to other men….
and all we seek is our own happiness.

Some seriously beautiful reflection in here, love love love the end. πΉ
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Teddy. It was an article i read on the likelihood of multiple universes, where they concluded that it was unlikely. First, we thought the world was flat, then that we were all there was, then that we were the only planet, then that we were the only solar system, then that we were part of the only galaxy.... and now we are the only Universe? I don't think so.
This, my friend, is a wonderfully reflective write. You had me from βa universe of universes.β
π€― Bravo! πΉπ
Thank you. TRL. Until we can break the light barrier, we will never know.
Truth!
Size is such an interesting aspect of our universe both small and large it goes on forever. We live in our scale and are aware of others but in this there are many worlds and why do we think ours is unique? A most thought provoking write.
Thank you, SB. I read yesterday, that they x-rayed a single atom. This opens up a whole new field of study. In one instance we are going inward, and in another outward to space. Size matters.
Yes, Phil; adolescence β infinity β dissociative state: been there.
True: all we have is our little patch (Earth) and fellow human beings.
Not sure if βand all we seek is our own happiness.β Is observation or condemnation.
You took on the largest of subjects and made sense of it β so well said!
Thank you, DD. It's been said many times and many ways, that we each seek our own personal happiness, some even to the extent of intruding on other's search. At any rate, the more we discover the more insignificant we become.
You may like to believe that flat earth theory or the proposition that we could well be the only intelligent life in the universe are just binned ideas - but they are still out there.... Your observation and crit re ours the only universe - 'I don't think so' is spot on.
Fine write Phil and that final stanza is so true.
Andy
Thank you, Andy. I certainly hope we can coexist and save our only home.
made me sit up and think whether man is really master of the universe or just a very tiny molecule
great write
Thank you, NSB. I think I would describe us as an intelligent organism, trapped on a small planet.
wonderful description.
have a great weekend
I read where if the timeline of this world was ten miles long, humans would be about 1/16 inch. You nailed that here.
Thank you, DW. I once heard it as a couple of atoms at the beginning of a yardstick.
