Angels are not beings I can believe in,
Although what I know is extremely thin.
If they exist but won’t even begin
To tread in places they wish to eschew,
Then let me volunteer my services for you…
Fools there are many and perhaps I’m one -
Your option - put me right, have me undone.
But here’s the thing I must tell you my son:
If you play safe with life, you’ve achieved what?
Better to take the odd chance unless you’d rather not….

I seem to have had angels in my life Dave and they have brought me so much wonder.
Andy
You obviously kept well and truly to the beaten track, Andy.
Thanks for the response.
In one church someone said they saw a big angel in the corner of a room once. I didn't see it though. You can call me 'My little cherub' but don't call me 'My little pony!' lol. Branching off into the NS again.
So after much careful analysis here, it became clear to me that the angel was sitting on the branch, not in the room, and the pony wasn't little but allowed you to gallop away into the mists of confusion......
I'm off for a ride on me pony! Am I? Or do I mean, NS-wise, I am having a 'ride' (a bet) on me 'pony', which is slang for £25?
I live and learn something new every (other) day.... wot an eddufication I get at MPS.....
Yep, it's educational on 'ere, not any old rubbish! lol.
So much lore, legend, and even cult following in some parts. But logically looking at this, the word ‘angelos’ before Anglicisation simply means messenger. So the postman, the app, yourself (whilst carrying a message) would qualify. Life's richness often lies in the risks we take rather than the safety we cling to. While it's easy to play it safe, true growth and profound experiences come from stepping out of our comfort zones. Embracing uncertainty can lead to discovering our truest selves. What that has to do with angels would be in the memo I have yet to receive. Perhaps this is it! Lol 😂
You really gave this more attention than it really deserved, Mate, but I shall be forever grateful. Got the message, you certainly did. Really didn’t need me to define the actual area where angels fear to tread, now did you?
Nah, course not mate, but preambling a statement helps like a disclaimer. Just a bit wordy today… must go out more lol 😂
No worries - in fact I shall refer anyone with a serious query back to you; it will save me much energy in dealing with the obtuse.
Haha, first one’s free… the rest attracts a full charge 🤣
You're on....👍....Although couldn't we.....
Everything is upside down..
When the lights came on it all went dark.
It becomes obvious that orchidee (above) did not make his escape into oblivion alone, but that you aided and abetted him. Thanks for the confession.
I do nothing of the sort
I aint gonna put all my eggs into one basket and plan for as long as I'm able to keep an open and enquiring mind .. just in case .. either way .. 😎👍
A reasonable strategy, all things considered, I would think.
Well written and expressed
Well then, all that it remains for me to do is to write 'thank you'.
You're welcome
Wonderful write, Dave. 🌹👏 As for Pope, maybe he would have used his own quote here, “To err is human, to forgive is divine.” If believing in angels floats someone’s boat in a good way, go for it! If you’re swinging at me with St. Michael’s sword, bugger off! Lol! As for angels themselves, any one with a message for you is such a being. Lol! Need not be any more mythological than that. All of those musings aside, a truly thought provoking poem. And I loved the Alexander Pope reference. 🙏❤️
Pope's "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread” As you are fully aware was the hanger really.. And it has always seemed a mite too cautionary for me. As for angels... well not the mythical image perhaps... For other substitutes - who knows?
Thanks for the attention, Tristan.
Indeed! Totally agree with you too. Goes to show well known quotes aren’t to be blindly accepted as true simply because they are well known. Again, truly enjoyed this poem, Dave! 🙏
Further Pope could, had he known, be quite cheesed off at the way his line had been taken up, its original meaning extended.
Oh, for sure! I can imagine that!
Nothing ventured nothing gained. All women are angels and men are from the other place, that hot house. 🙂 Good job I’m joking eh Dave. There is a distinct lack of femininity on this site. Where’s the women. Where are they. 😇 What’s all this to do with a dead poet?
It’s like a boys club round these parts. 🙂
Hi Cassie. I did feel a tinge of guilt when I used the word ‘son’ in my poem. (is that what’s got you wound up?) It felt right because I thought the piece had an old fashioned feel. And, if course, it helped with the rhyme.
The women? Where are they? You had better ask them. Plenty of them on site. They do their thing, but don’t participate in conversations much. Nothing I can do. I can’t strong arm ‘em. You have a good day and watch the blood pressure.
Ha ha, my blood pressure is fine. No problems with that. Creaking bones maybe 🙂
I always had an angel 😇
standing by my shoulder I thought . 🤔
Believe it or not;
after reading this poem,
maybe it's the devil I got? 👿
Thanks for sharing 😊🙏
I take the odd chance
quite a lot¿!
Best regards ✌️ Thad
If it is the devil, then it's a lot more benign than most of the characters you turn up!!!! Take it easy, Thad.
