Jewel discarded

sorenbarrett

I did not perceive the beauty
of nature all around
I didn’t raise my eyes to see
more than where I was bound

What I thought trash now has splendor
cold sting of the floor, at the break of dawn
A cobweb’s clinging surrender
A rusty nail who’s shine is gone

Each poem contains a heartbeat
the poet's blood it bleeds
old waste now honey excretes
in deeply planted seeds

Far underground they make a sound
Each critic's stab a discarded scab
shed on the ground becomes a jewel found
the reader to grab

The notion that each poem contains a heartbeat underscores the emotional investment and transformative power of art. This poem challenge its reader to look beyond the surface and appreciate the inherent beauty and value in the overlooked and discarded. It is a celebration of transformation and the enduring power of life-perception and art.

I really like this poem, it highlights to me that different people can see beauty in different things, and that everything has some beauty in it somewhere, enjoyable read, Thank you Soren

Thank you so much for the read and the insightful interpretation. They are both appreciated and valued. That old saying that what is one man’s trash is another man’s treasure holds true in art. I tried to look at each person‘s poem with the insight that it is something important to them

I'm with the geezer in the rectangle just below mine 😎👍

          • sorenbarrett

Thanks, Neville. I always appreciate your visit. This time I can’t see the rectangle below yours only the one above it. But then your powerful words often take a great deal of time to filter through my mind and give any light to the wisdom that you have. Have a wonderful day.

              Soren, It's you, I think.😜

Thanks Dave. If you’re talking about discarded, it could be me. Appreciate your read and kind words.

Amen! A wonderful write on writing and people discovering those written gems along the way, even if others thought they were trash. I often post, engage…then on to the next, almost forgetting the poem I previously wrote, that is until I see a notification that someone liked or commented on it because it spoke to them. Poems are the gifts that keep on giving! And yes, they do have their critics too! But well worth the risk in my humble opinion. Well done, friend! Great poem! 🌹👏

                • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much, Tristan. Your words are always appreciated and valued. I think that as a poet one must keep one’s mind open to the beauty in everything. When I read others poems, I have to remember that these are things that were very important to them.

Boohoo! Verse 2, line 1: What I thought was splendour turned out to be trash - well, a trout, you know! lol.

                  • sorenbarrett

Yes I know and knew at the time. I wrote this that you would respond that way. Thanks for the read. There is always plenty of trash to be turned into gold.

There is loveliness everywhere for those who look. Sadly some don’t have the time to notice what is within their grasp. Beautiful poetry and multifaceted too. A jewel of a poem Soren. Fine work. A lovely read. This touched me particularly regarding the natural environment.
