The Shadows.

Goldfinch60

There it was, still there,

Still there amongst them,

Amongst my records of the past,

The very first album that I bought

And the very first album of the group.

The memories it brought to me

Took me back to that time,

That time in the early sixties

When pop music was great.

Cliff was around singing to us

But the group with him were there.

The Shadows blew my mind,

Their music was wonderful.

So I bought their first album

And it has been with me,

Been with me for years,

For sixty three years,

And still I listen to it,

Still listen to The Shadows.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I still have the first two albums that The Shadows recorded: "The Shadows" recorded in 1961, this was the very first album that I bought with my pocket money, and "Out of the Shadows!" recorded in 1962. https://youtu.be/SxSFJz3pm7Q?si=wPzRv9AuQ6f6fI5r

Ooh! Those handsome boys! Oh, be still my beating heart! Listening to the rhythmic beat as the strains steal off my soul whilst watching those boys--oh! I'm swooning, I swoon! Beautifully rendered with superbly haunting poignancy and excellent imagery. Thank you for sharing.

Why, yes, proper songs of yesteryear, not trashy like some are today. I've a book on art history. The same seems to apply - classical in olden years; some of it turning trashy in more recent years. I find it with old films too - remakes may bore me and be nothing like the original.

Very true words Orchi, thank you.

They were fantastic. Cliff Richards and the Shadows. They inspired the Beatles and all the bands of the 60's.This poem takes me back to the good old days of Vinyl.

          • Goldfinch60

They certainly were and did pave the way in the 60's David. Thank you.

The music sounds so familiar and although this was my era, I cannot place the name of the group. Oh well, I guess I was fairly young then and didn’t give much notice to the names of the music. I listen to. Nicely written, Andy.

Time to revisit that era and make a real go of it. I was toddling along as a preschooler so the memories are vague. But thanks to reruns and music lovers all around I still got a consciously aware first hand experience. Thanks for sharing!

Fabulous acoustics music that's timeless. They would also be worth a few bob now. 🌹

A fine write. I do like the Shadows. Apache and all that, just brilliant. And the great Hank Marvin. A comedian once said, I wonder if every time Hank Marvin introduces himself is he offered a sandwich? πŸ™‚

There is nothing like the music we love! I just published a poem on a song I love from a band I love, also back from the 60s. Well done, my friend, well done! πŸŒΉπŸ‘
