Before Spill Kits and DNA Became a Thing

The crack in the wall

at the apex

is no different today

than it was

twenty five years ago

when I first

noticed it was even

there at all ..

But let us not forget

the stain

on our ceiling is still

the very

same one in reverse

that our

neighbour still covets

even today,

but remains desperate

to hide on a rug

covered bedroom floor ..

Upstairs neighbor? Of course and so the crack and stain. A lovely piece of work here Neville and I'm not talking of 25 years ago.

time flies doesn't it my friend .. and there's has been a lot of water flowed under the bridge .. yet some things just can't be washed away .. can they .. bless you brother .. N

I tried Neville, but my conscience wouldn’t allow it. This poem is far too good to go unfaved. The crack in my ceiling is showing light. The greater poet above is showing through. Far too many levels of metaphor are apparent in this poem. I bow to the greater light.

You are not only far too kind & possibly deluded, you are a 💎too sir & its an honour to be associated with you and your ink .. Neville

Delusions are a poets friend and sometimes a muse. Ditto

I try not to, you are very welcome

This gets a big, fat FAVED! And that's alliterative too. As it should be for a poem of such brilliance...and the title, paired with the poem...wow! 🤯 And, yes, the cracks in the apex never seem to leave, do they? If anything they grow wider! And the idea that what is a stain to us is coveted by our neighbors. Again 🤯 Just...wow! Well done, friend! 🌹👏

                • Neville

Even though I seriously don't think I deserve it, I shall copy, cut and paste your kind words into a pillow and sleep on them soundly this very night .. thank you my friend .. you are a 💎too my friend .. 😎👍

Know this bloke (got his magnet card thingy on me fridge) will fix anything - no questions asked.......

                  • Neville

would you kindly consider exchanging his number with one of my hit mens .. asking for a friend 😎👍

                    • Doggerel Dave

Of course. Your friend needs to know his background though – Styles himself as a Painter and Decorator, but his core business is helping people out of somewhat embarrassing situations… Has an international clientele and visits what he fondly refers to as the ‘Mother Country’ on a regular basis. He accidentally let slip sometime back that he had an audience with a Royal, but I never saw an MBE forthcoming. Does a sideline in luxury mattresses at cost, so if yours, ah well..... you know.....

                      • Doggerel Dave

And sorry - I tried to contact him when you showed initial interest on behalf of your friend. Unfortunately he was incommunicado. My guess is that he is currently in the US of A, up to his neck in work. Every time you hear charges on someone or other somewhere or other have been dropped, you can bet he’s been working overtime… Anyway, when he gets back I’m sure he will be happy to visit his favourite Land of Hope and Glory and sort your friend’s little difficulty out.
He's also interested in the result of your recent election and how the new government might affect his operation. So far so good; his two Russian oligarch clients haven’t broken into a sweat yet….

                          Shit .. I'll be in

                          • Doggerel Dave

So if you..... anyway....uh......well you know where I am.........

                          • Cheeky Missy

Reality is a funny thing, isn't it? A few apertures for undesirable admittance can never quite trounce the more ghastly facts which cannot ever be denied, despite our best attempts. Murder may be rolled in a carpet and hauled away sans notice, as the urban legends say, yet Abel's blood is never as gone as the killer needs. Charmingly intriguing and excellently rendered with superb imagery and a deliciously haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks a million for stooping to consider my little scribble Missy .. tis always such a pleasure to have you aboard .. Hope you are well & thanks again .. Neville

But the rug won’t stay up on a stained ceiling! So why not wear the cracks with pride, perhaps?

                              • Neville

I guess that could possibly work if he had any .. I suggested nine inch nails but he kind of winced, made a funny noise and slipped through the floorboards and down into the basement ... maybe it was guilt that got in the way .. maybe .. Cheers mate 😎👍

                              • Dan Williams

So, just what is the stain concealing or revealing? Hmmm.

                                • Neville

You know better than to ask a proper gentleman surely sir .. mmmH 🙂
