I didn't notice pieces of me falling off
Hair growing thinner by the day
At such loss I did scoff
Then bits of skin started falling away
Eyes, appendix, gall bladder corroded
As a child my tonsils I lost
Slowly bits of honor eroded
With time, children and wife became the cost
Mind's autumn leaves fall
Dementia rotting my brain to nothing
In deafness I hear the dirt call
Now winter's cold is coming

Inspired writing as a part of imortality...
Thanks Lorenz your review and comments are most valued
Well aren't you just a beam of sunshine today... π So incredibly gracious an honest look at the seasons of one's self.
Cleaning day so I have to dust myself off and I'm finding that I'm all dust. Thanks Teddy
You are so much more than dust my dear friend. π€
Liked and Faved. Part of me has days like thatβ¦ now Iβm nursing my sore feet. Just back from a much needed shift as the cost of living keeps us toiling even past what once was typical in oneβs lifespan. So we trudge along like a tattered jalopy.
Thanks so much Cryptic for the support it is most appreciated. Yea we are on the same track I am working on a poem about the increased cost of things
Excellent write
Thank you so much Tony

For a minute i thought i was reading my doctors report, really enjoyed the read
Thanks so much Toban I appreciate it
You are very welcome
We must accept the aging process, but we don't have to like it. I still have all my hair, but I'm losing other things. Nice work Soren
Loss is not bad necessarily but nothing that most of us want. Thanks so much for the read and comment
In each life there is a rise and fall. There secret is not to care.A powerful existential poem
Thanks David I appreciate the read and words of support
Open. Honest. Truth. Very well written!
Thanks so much for reading and for your suppoet
This body will rot
Only if it's in the grave
Is that not the intention
Of the Creator, I say?!
Look to the east
On your quest
Then take the journey
To the west
Thank you so much for the read and comment
Death and decay make for great poetry!
Thank you so much for the read and comment yes for some reason people love the dark
Wow. Powerful work, time never loses. Carpe Diem, my friend.
Thanks so much Thomas I appreciate your read and comment as always and yes indeed Carpe Diem
I'll circle around for a bit longer if you don't mind - if I take this too seriously, I'll crash...
Not sure if you are serious about the cost of living, Soren - be interesting, as I can't see metaphors being very handy there....π
Thanks Dave no that poem about the cost of living is still to come. Working a few bugs out of it. Thanks for the read and comment and hope you stick around for a good long time
I can imagine the bugs - it's not a topic I would want to take on in a hurry...but who knows? after reading yours...
It will crawl out tomorrow Dave
It's nice to find someone as depressed and disappointed as I am. Finding things to counter this mood get harder and harder to find. "Now winter's cold is coming".
Thanks for the words of support Dan have leaned on my depression and disappointment for years and not that they are sinking into pools of acceptance I hope that the oncoming winter will freeze these pools over.
I have thought about it long and hard and now conclude there is no way you could have chosen a more apt title to front a topic that if we take enough breaths will have a vast impact on us all .. I have never been afraid of dying or of my own departure, but I am not keen on this getting old malarky .. the losses seem to occur back on back & with increasing ferociousness .. I still have my hair and a few marbles but still feel like a casualty .. I am not in the least bit surprised by the number of folk ho rate these words of yours so highly my friend .. and believe me, I do too .. Neville ππ
Now Neville that's not fair blowing smoke up the ass of an old fart whose rotting pride is an easy target. In all seriousness I appreciate your words and look to many of your works as guiding stars and food for thought.
I do hope you are not suffering from dementia soren, my wife had it and I know all about it, she passed five years ago with dementia.
Andy
No Andy as far as I know no dementia thank you for the concern. I appreciate your review of this piece and your kind wishes. My condolences Andy and apology for touching on a sore subject.
comes to all of us, my friend, that's for sure
Again I thank you for your kind words of support. Please write some more of your own poetry I am longing to read it.
