God's Christmas

sorenbarrett

Fisherman brag of your yacht to a drowning man
Colored paper trash thrown beneath a broken tree in a bed pan
A picture of you, proudly making change out of a Salvation Army pot
Mere veneer of cheer, a seven day Christmas cold you caught

Christ lives in beggar clothes, Allah in an infant's smile
Buddha in a rose that grows out of a garbage pile
The fisherman that brings your food in his creel, smells of fish
Your heart reveal, sit him at your meal with more than scraps on a dirty dish

Fill his glass with memories of when you asked with extended hand
Take from your plenty amassed, bow to his command
Kneel before this tainted saint, ask forgiveness from his facade
Through eyes of charity, yourself acquaint with the face of your god
