A message sent in the common way lasts only one day

sorenbarrett

A fragrance to the bee flowing from a flowering tree
A treasure mined buried in a blind mind
In metaphor's debris lays the key designed
To find gems refined in poetry

Bits and pieces of verbal rock falling out of talk
Toys of the departed soon discarded
Not given stock, some red carded disregarded
Beneath layers guarded a secret in a clock

Pleasure in discovery, what is a secret's recovery
In the ticking of time out of darkness does chime
Jewels of honey sublime written on stone of rhyme
Out of grime, light of reason does climb as words of a humming bee

I love the power that poetry has in communicating land making it stick over a long period of time. Encourages us to be busy bees when it comes to weaving and crafting poems with meaning and depth. Thank you kindly.

Thank you so much for your read Cryptic and yes since Homer, or maybe before, poetry and its rhyme has been used to remember accurately history without distortion. Poetry sticks in the mind while plain words fall into oblivion.

Makes one wonder if plain word poems fare similarly. But it's too nice to think that way. Must be the sugar withdrawal speaking, hahaha....

I have no illusions, we can only hope some sticks, because most will be lost in time.

            • sorenbarrett

True but if only one line sticks it is enough. Thanks for the read and comment and a Merry Christmas to you

Ah…the power of poetry! I love how it compares poems to honey and jewels - sweet and precious. And I concur on the longevity difference between ordinary communication and the poetic craft! Poetry rings and sings to the soul. Anyway, wonderful, though-provoking poem, my friend! Merry Christmas to you!

                • sorenbarrett
