Laying fractured on the ground, a broken limb bound
Rope of hemp with a noose, dead dove, above a mate coos
When In a predator's eye a bird will fly or die
Wings will reach the sky or in cruel maw lie
A time of human abuse sanctioned slavery the excuse
He'd run away before, next time death was swore
Healed from lash's hurt with life's end he did flirt
A new pile of dirt, torn bloodied shirt
Ghosts of birds that soar, left were the shoes he wore
Whispering breeze's secret drown in the baying of the hound
No one grieves over fallen leaves
Blown away their sound, no tracks left to confound
Death misery relieves, to others it deceives
Fading footsteps on broken ground, never a body found

The very importance of life, very apt for today. Superbly powerful. ๐น
Thank you Teddy for your read and kind words they as always are deeply appreciated
It looks like it's peaceful, but it's difficult to carry on.
Strange things still happen.
There's one thing I don't understand. I would appreciate it if you could tell me why you chose the title "Fallen Leaves."
Ah good question. Fallen leaves are a metaphor. There are multiple meanings. No longer of use they are cast off, they are also now free from what once held them and in death they are free. They are soon forgotten, and serve to cover traces of the past, either escape tracks or graves. They serve no further use and are not mourned by either the tree that droped them or any others. Thanks for asking
โFallen leaves" being a picture of life cycleโs ending, curtailed by the season in which it โlivesโโ powerfully intertwines nature and human suffering, creating a poignant narrative. The imagery and symbolism effectively capture the pain and loss experienced. A strong and meaningful vice ringing clear from you pen, Soren!
Thank you Cryptic as always I appreciate your reads and comments. Thank you so much
Good write SB.
Thanks so much Orchi

You're welcome
This poem speaks of life's incessant march onward (to what exactl?) as we remain haunted by the sins of our past as well as the ones yet to be perpetrated. In this poem, I read of a lynching or an execution of a run away slave...but that is, for me, while time and people may have forgotten that event long ago, while no body was found, and no tracks left behind...the breeze knows of it, the ghosts of the birds flying overhead know of it. And, truthfully, those collective skeletons, they always come out eventually...often times through history repeating itself. So, in this I see that cycle. I could be way off here with my interpretation, but that is how it I am reading it right now. Regardless, well done, my Soren! ๐น๐
Thank you Tristan I think you are very close to the trail. Tell me if you find the body or run away. Yes you are right about the cycle and metaphor in general. So appreciate the read and careful interpretation
Whew! ๐ I'll take close! LOL! Thank you, my friend! A wonderful write! ๐น๐
very tragic, another one gone...death holds the victim in its arms but breaks the heart of friends and family

Thanks Gold indeed it would be I appreciate your read and interpretation.
A fine write, Soren. Works on many levels. For some reason, this had the feel of Bob Dylan to it. Could imagine these as song lyrics. Well done.
I hadn't thought of that but yes I remember the song "The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll" Thanks so much for the read and comment it brought this back to memory
Literally the poem kicks like a mule on our sensibility. The line "No one grieves over fallen leaves" sums it all. Powerful work which questions our morality. Thoroughly enjoyed the read
