Gum chewed only, to be spit out
The cheap and shiny soon to be discarded
Of quality poured in a draught of a drought
Lasting beauty disregarded
Disposable values pile high on a garbage heap
Today's heroes become tomorrow's trash
Old spouses we don't keep
Hell... even gold they turned into cash
Today's sun will soon depart
Replaced by the glow of a street light
Now black quenched embers of stars, as they part
Beauty's eyes gouged out in a technological fight

A fine write SB.
Thanks so much Orchi
It can all change in a click of a moment, for better or for worse. Powerful and poetic as your work always is. 🌹
Thanks so much Teddy for your read and comment. Yes I've seen much change in my short years and fear what change is yet to come in what time I have left
Here I found a powerful critique of modern society's disposable nature and the erosion of lasting value and beauty. It surrounds us and pervades our lives. Every 6 months or so we have to force upgrade to keep up with the techno-Joneses or be left behind in the dust of madness.
Thanks Cryptic for the read and most on point observation. Beauty is transient whether people of things and we should look beyond that visual aspect and more to utility and beauty of a different type.
So true! 🙏🏻👍🏻🕊️
I got the impression of todays society becoming a throw away society and nothing appears to be valued anymore, beauty is ignored. Enjoyed the read
Thanks Tobani yes that is indeed the intent of the poem. Nothing including values, friendships, mates, even money holds value for long.
You are very welcome, have a good weekend
The title poses a great question and the poem delivers quite the societal critique. Nothing is lasting and the trivial seems to be all that is valued in this topsy turvy world. Great poem, my friend! 🌹👏
Thank you so much for the read and response that is right on. I thank you so much
You are welcome my friend!
As we have become creatures of consumption, everything must be disposable or have a shelf life. You rightly ask the question "What happened to beauty"? I fear we have lost a true appreciation of it, for what we call beautiful today is nothing at all. Bravo!!
Dear Bella thank you for your visit and kind words of support. Keep writing Bella

""quality poured in a draught of a drought" is so pretty, so effective. The eye of too many beholders is behind blinders. Noce work.
Thanks so much Dan I appreciate the words of support.
Beauty is still out there soren but not many people look for it nowadays, I do though.
Andy
Thanks Gold I appreciate your most positive attitued. Yes there is beauty to be found in everything
We toss things out just to get something new when the things we toss still have beauty. Enjoyed it Soren
Thisss is a sore spot in my heart- the disposableness of everything it seems, so hard to find something made to last. Awesome write thank you
