Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I do return sometimes... occasionally...
I do return sometimes... occasionally...
A big cheese cosmos with mould spread live –
Us (all sentience in this universe)…
Life needs moisture and oxygen to thrive;
But prosper? Earth likely becomes a hearse.
.
Our own mycelium civilization
Can poison this paltry portion I fear;
Although there’s no need for consternation -
The cheese wheel universe will just not hear….

Life is beyond the Universe Dave, I will meet you there one day.
Andy
I think somehow that our models of existence don’t exactly coincide, Andy. However, should by any chance yours prevail, then I’d be more than willing to meet up (I hope your taste in whisky has improved by then….!!!)
Sir Orchi NS went mouldy years ago! lol.
The universe chooses to take absolutely no notice at all.....
It came from you! Foetid cheese 🧀 periphery … indelibly printed 🙏🏻👍🏻🕊
There is affirmation there, I'm sure.... many thanks. It is just that I cannot attribute the quality if indelibility to life at all.
Oh that is a big ask but we get stained often enough 🤩🧀👍🏻🕊
I wonder it there is prejudice against blue cheese? Actually Dave I think you gave mankind more credit than deserved in this metaphor, we are more like virus' and mold would be much more evolved. A write about a subject that I have had thoughts about before. Life is just peripheral and is only important to us because it is us. Well done Dave
Nah - I'll stay with mould, as some (a few) of humanity for example can be quite evolved. You've cracked it in your penultimate sentence. As for your final - I don't need no encouragement!!
My favorite description of humanity comes from The Matrix, when Agent Smith is relating humanity to a virus that spreads and consumes until it destroys everything. This, perhaps, might be my second favorite! Love the metaphor Dave. 🌹👏
I might not be a winner, but I'll settle for a place, Tristain!! Many thanks.
I've just reviewed this Tristan, and hope you won't mind an additional thought:
You give life too much importance in my book - Even if humans completely destroyed earth, this would not be even a hiccup to our galaxy, where whole suns are constantly made and destroyed, nor would it make any difference to the trillions of galaxies in our universe, or to what are presumably an infinite number of galaxies beyond ours.
This is true, but how many poems would that utlimately produce, devoid of human meaning? Your poem here attempts to add human meaning, or at least human understanding, of cosmic insignificance. Meaninglessness has been a muse before, no doubt. There's a book in the Bible dedicated to it: Ecclesiastes, where nothing is new under the sun and everything is meaningless. But it is human nature to find meaning in life, and for me, I could never put too much importance on it; it is all we know...if we even know that. It is in valuing life that we discover pain, loss, and death. If we did not value it, if we did not ascribe some sort of importance to it, what would be the point, right? It is true that we can overvalue human life or become too anthropocentric and that humans are but a nano speck on a micro speck on a speck of life; however, we're here and we do have impact on this planet and other lives, human or otherwise...and that, in my opinion, deserves to be taken seriously and with importance. That is where I come from, anyway. My Matrix comment was less about humanity's impact on all the cosmos but its undeniably significant impact on life on this planet. I hope that clarifies. All the same, thank you for your thoughts and for sparking the discussion. I love to discuss, my friend. Much appreciated. And it made me revisit this wonderful poem. ❤️🙏
Apologies, Tristan - I meant to get back to you before this. I just wanted to thank you for the (copy and paste) Ecclesiastes reference. I sussed it out, both in an old King James I’ve had since age 9, and of course the web. An informative and interesting afternoon, I had.
And despite my perspective above, of course I have to agree that we are here, conscious (will we ever understand what consciousness….?) with all manner of moral and so on interactions to be made as part of existence and survival. Many thanks for making the time and effort.
Oh. You are welcome, my friend. No matter where we find ourselves intellectually or otherwise, we are all on this space rock together; I always enjoy deep and existential questioning and conversation. There's much to learn, even from what we disagree with...or so I believe anyway. I always appreciate your willingness to put the time in to discuss, as well. So, many thanks to you as well, my friend. ❤️🙏
Not enough of you around.👍
Excellent write
Excellent that you called, Tony.
You're welcome
You paint a vivid picture.
I try. Thanks for the read.
A fantastic poem, politics is cheesy while your poem was super cool to read. Kudos!!
Plz also read and comment my newest poem too
Thanks muchly for that.
Cheese never did have ears, last I checked, else it might have also a voice which I don't think I'd tolerate for all the grating and melting and slicing I do in the name of meal preparations for our indulgence. After that, yes, I catch your drift. It won't be long now, I rather think. And since you've chosen that simile, it'll be melted to nothing, last I knew. Excellently, nay, superbly rendered to effect with exquisite imagery and a haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
I'm only back here because I got a message in my inbox....but I do thank ye for your attention, Missy to my grim but I feel realistic little scribble... Speaking of little scribbles, I note that your latest contribution to this poetic scramble here is of novel length, and while I feel an obligation to contribute, I do hope that there is no expectation on your part for a matching or.....and so on....
Ah. Have a wonderful rest of January and happy beginning of Spring which supposedly begins on February 1st, or Saturday, but I swear it began a couple weeks ago.
Dunno where you are, but here spring happened a while ago and I'm now in the midst of a hot steamy summer...... If you are really pushed I'll send you some over....
My profile says Bolingbrook, which I ignorantly thought was only in Illinois, but that's where I be on the map. Australia being I thought 15 hours ahead of us, guess your summer is likewise. I'll wait since I don't like summer or winter. Thank you very much again!
any poem or bit of literature that mentions cheese is bound to be a BIG hit with me and makes me smile .. you just can't beat a bit of blue mould .. 🧀💙
Not sure if my interrogation of reality was given acknowledgement here, Neville , but there you go – you gotta accept whatever old crusts are thrown yer way, doncha?😜
