it was almost as if
Solo knew
sensing the violence
of steel blade slicing
through soft flesh
she sat on her hind legs
beside the wind chime tree
her eyes fixed on mine
then on the moving mobiles
as they twisted and trembled
on bare branches
tinkling in winter cold
then in solidarity she joined in
whimpering across the valley
my dog whimpered for
a boy departed
she had never known

Haunting! This poem brings the reader in in the middle and leaves them without an ending, suspended in time and space with that feeling of weightlessness of falling but not having hit yet. There is a feeling of apprehension. Very well written Cassie
Thank you so much sorenbarrett for your thoughts. Have a great weekend.
I felt a bit nervous reading this one from you Cassie, (steel blade slicing through soft flesh), hoping i have misunderstood this one, still enjoyed the read. Have a good day
Sadly a 13 year old was the victim of knife crime in our neighborhood. Killed by other children. Many thanks Tobani for stopping by. Have a good weekend.
I am sorry to hear so near to you, it is a disease that is out of control in this country now, the young killing the young. I have just written 2 pieces around the 12 year boy who was also stab in Birmingham. Putting that all to one side, i hope you have a good weekend
Sadly it is now a sign of our times. Scary. It needs an iron grip. I donโt think our politicians are up to it. Iโll look out for your new poems. A good weekend to you also.
Thank you
Oh wow, much like the scurrying about my sister and I did as school children, sometimes even when events like this one described had just occurred. Very moving poem. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๏ธ
Thank you arqios for stopping by to leave your thoughts. All the best.
Youโre welcome Cassie ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐
Wow! Instantly got the connection your other poem. Animals just have that sense, don't they? A hauntingly beautiful poem. Brava, my dear friend! ๐น๐
Thank you Tristan. Have a good weekend. All the best.
You too, Cassie! All the best to you as well!
A fine write Cassie.
Thank you Orchi. All the best.
Gave me goosebumps, there is a lot of horrific news this week regarding knives, it has to stop, your pain is our pain, a comunity shouldn't have to grieve any child and children shouldn't be handling knives. I was in London when Steven Lawrence died, I was also in much pain for him. ๐น Your empathy and compassion and in the way you have even entered your dear Dog really brings home how terrible it all is. ๐
Thank you dear Teddy. Sadly knife crime is out of control. It is everywhere, but even worse in London. Kids killing kids. We have weak government, who arenโt prepared to get tough. The Steven Lawrence murder was a stain. Have a glorious weekend dear poet and many thanks for stopping by. ๐น๐๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ

lovely verse
- such a beautiful poem, and truly captures how animal instincts are more powerful sometimes - so that they offer support and solace to man
Thank you dear Safina. You are so right about animals. They pick up on things which we arenโt aware of. Bless you.
yes they surely are much more sensitive, and sometimes sensible too.
have a beautiful and productive day
