The Rich Man's Sidewinder

Tristan Robert Lange

One amendment, two amendment, three amendment, four,
Five amendment, six amendment, what the fuck, no more!
We only need amendments to fix constitutions,
And we don’t need those—got presidential solutions.

Seven, eight, nine, ten amendments, let’s all the way,
No reason to keep them around where dictators play.
With a cheap plastic marker and shiny black binder,
Freedoms are signed away by a rich man’s sidewinder.

I would so agree thank heavens the ratification of ammendments were left up to a herd of fools call the people. These are the same ones that elect the king fool. A most wonderful read to open eyes. It is the end of the string in the tangle

Thank you, my friend. Sober eyes seem to be sparing anymore...not many around anymore. It's always good to be in the company of those who see things as I am seeing them. It makes me feel less crazy! 🤪

Strong piece, in a dictators world there are no such things as freedom or amendments as the world is about to find out, i think the saying will be My Way Or Your On The Highway, really enjoyed the read.

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Yes. The world, I fear, is about to find out. I dread even turning on the news anymore. Thank you so much, my friend. I am glad teh poem delivered, though I am sad/scared that it is such a true story.

          • Poetic Licence

Millions of years ago I recall playing 'One potato, two, potato,.....' using fists, but not fisticuffs! lol.

            • Tristan Robert Lange

🤣 Yes, those were simpler days, my friend. I long for them.

              Powerful and poignant.

WTF is this, eh?! Too delightfully rendered with classic, enchanting rhythm and excellent imagery, not to mention a fitly haunting poignancy. Thank you very much for sharing.

              • Tristan Robert Lange

🤣 I know, right?!?!? Thank you so much, friend. I am glad the poem delivered, and you enjoyed it. 🙏❤️

Nine, ten, a big fat hen! Then we’ll all ah-tishoo and all fall down… so here’s to watchfully be aware and praying, surely something is in the air… 🙏🏻👍🏻🕊

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, prayer and watchfulness are in major order, my friend. Dark times, I fear, lay ahead. I hope I am wrong, but the first few days have not shown me to be so far. Here's hoping and, yes, watching. Thank you so much for your time, your comments, and your prayers my friend. We certainly need them over here and, heck, the world really needs them too! I truly appreciate you! ❤️🙏

At the stroke of a pen how much damage can be inflicted. A very topical write Tristen. I hope it is limited, but I am not very optimistic my friend. Very well composed.

"Freedoms are signed away by a rich man’s sidewinder." - just wow!!!

                • NafisaSB

i agree with you - good write
so many amendments, and yet has it brought about positive change ? i wonder

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you for reading and commenting my friend. Indeed there are a lot of amendments. My poem was more or less focused on the frivolous signing away of essential amendments that protect rights and freedoms. Something I am seeing happening in the USA right now. In the US context, our current president is signing away or altering things like Birthright Citizenship without going through the proper legal channels, thereby undermining our constitution. That said, I appreciate your perspective, as it adds another layer of interpretation to the poem that I hadn’t considered. Yes, sometimes people amend things to no real effect. So, I thank you for that interpretation as well. Again, thank you for your time and your engagement, my friend. So glad you enjoyed the poem. 🙏❤️

yes, i see the present regime merrily signing for a lot of changes without truly understanding the far reaching consequences it can have -some may be good, and necessary, but quite a few are causing a lot of upheaval. one can only hope things will finally turn out well.
i appreciate the patriotic concern you feel for your land, which shows a lot of thought and concern; and hope that things will improve ultimately..

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you, my friend. Your empathy and understanding are truly appreciated. I am very concerned, indeed. I hope the same thing and I thank you for thinking of us over here. By the way, I noticed you are from India. I spent three weeks in India over a decade ago on a cross-cultural trip that was such a life-changing experience. India will always have a special place in my heart. ❤️ Thought I would share with you.😊

take care and have a good weekend

i hope it's sooner rather than later, and can guide you on what's worth seeing
                              welcome to india
