Sussing the Pot Plant
The green pot plant
standing
all alone, on the cool
bottom
black step of our new
and still
shiny spiral staircase,
appeared
to be moulting along
with the dog ..
My dear good lady wife
always notices
such things and said, it
was a fine example
of subtropical,
variegated weeping fig ..
Then she asked,
if I thought, it may ever
feel lonely ..
I said, I doubt it, after all,
it’s got the dog
and a view through our
new triple glazed
French windows, across
the garden
into the forest beyond ..
She just smiled,
wiped both of her eyes,
and then,
wept back to the dishes ..

And so we all weep in our lonelyness. Separated by species, gender, social level and space we are all alone. As the plant behind a window, separated from fellow plants so we from our wives and families see them through the window of our eyes held back from joining them by technology (shiny spiral staircase), daily duties (washing of dishes) and understanding. How cunning the choice of a weeping fig. Very nice so rich in metaphor here Neville.
I'm so glad you spotted them my dear sorenbarrett .. you helped make the whole exercise worthwhile .. Neville
You have a wife with a superfluity of empathy β now whatever you do donβt you be slipping on the new shiny spiral staircase and cause her further grief, Neville.......
Your insight becomes you Dave .. hope you are gonna stick around now .. You have been seriously missed .. Neville
Never really went away, Neville - just severely reduced my time and effort here.... finished a 600 plus page novel last week... ('finished' as in read and.....)
I do love the interplay of images, motions, nuances and interactions! Youβre earning another like/fave combo N! ππ»ππ»π
I really couldn't ask for any more .. indeed, I wasn't expecting so much .. Thank you very, very much arqios .. Neville
Well, sometimes you win some and at others so much more! ππ»ππ»π
Wow! Just wow. A hauntingly and heartbreakingly beautiful poem. It is poignant as we all experience and go through loneliness and grief. We experience it for ourselves, and we observe others going through it. Of course, not everyone is open to those emotions in themselves, and, of course, that leads them to be pretty insensitive to others. You, my friend, are a sensitive observer who is open to the wellspring of emotions that grief and loneliness are and the process it takes to go through it. Well done. πΉπ
Many thanks Tristan .. You are a credit to our species and your insight is out of this world .. Neville
Awww. Your'e welcome and...why thank you! As are you, my friend!
Good write N. KP wanted a pot plant, so I bought her one. It was 'the weed' = pot! Dunno why she complained. I said to her: 'Well, you wanted a pot plant, dear!' lol.
I'm pretty sure that I was expecting something like that from you Orchidee .. .. on second thoughts, I knew it .. cheers .. Neville
Excellent write Nevilie
Cheers .. π
You're welcome
You bring the scene to life. Powerful work.
Thank you most kindly Thomas .. Neville
May that loneliness disappear and wondrous love reappear Neville.

I was wondering whether to try and take a graft or divide it in two and see if that helps .. just got to try and find a matching pot .. Cheers, Neville π»
Aww, is that, erm, the reason you collected that particular variety of the species?...so that the female sex could indulge in its half favorite pastime?
It was an accident Missy .. oh' n which one do ya mean .. washing dishes, or weeping .. π
I meant weeping to the dishes. Being in a mild quandary when leaving that comment which you notice lacks its usual conclusion, and subsequently interrupted mid-comment, I sent it lest I lose it like I'd just lost a previous. Ergo, as my wont, very beautifully rendered with superb poignancy and exquisite imagery. Thank you, seriously, very much for sharing, dear friend.
Nicely done, Neville. A really poignant piece.
Many thank you's for stopping by and considering my latest Tom .. Neville
Gardens always help the marriage grow, especially when looking through the βnew French windowsβ-delightful imagery
