A Very Special Hummingbird

Teddy.15

A beautiful mind, gifted

awareness at a very young age

using her wisdom to write

and explore her dark and her light

shutting her eyes as her world dropped dead

A romantic soul, yet unable to accept the rough

and why should she?

having chosen a bird, herself a soulmate or crow?

after all a mind can open to a heart in love

or can simply turn black?

being carried over the threshold once was magical

but thereafter being dropped on her head?

because seemingly the love had faded and died

maybe her true heart was with Dylan?

never truly understanding this, not even her?

Bringing her to a dark and miserable space

which others refused to see?

some calling her clinically depressed?

isn’t that what happened to Van Gogh too?

all he ever wanted was to be discovered for his talents?

some poets are born to crawl some are born to fly

and this girl had wings and she knew how to use them

It was this that kept her roaring through the skies

I believe with all my heart that on some days she did fly

way above the clouds

to wish that most famous character known to man

a great day? some would even call him God

she had wings and she knew how to use them

I imagine she used to meet the Angels too

sitting having afternoon tea and a table cloud

no one but her and the Angels

who brushed her hair and sang her lullabies?

all she ever had to do

was close her eyes and the world be dead.

Sylvia Plath was a tormented, but hugely talented poet and author. I visited her grave in Heptonstall several years ago (I live 17 miles from there). You paint a warm and compassionate picture with words here, Teddy! Sylvia certainly deserves to be remembered, and to be read!

Thank you dearest Robert, a long one to read, so humbled you have found this compassionate because of course my own soul is on this work, I believe she was lost far too soon. 🌹

A wonderful tribute to another poet so well worded made me wonder her having chosen a crow and knowing you also have picked a crow or rather raven. Similarities here? And it ends as it begins with the closing of the eyes. Well done Teddy

I chose purposely crow, because it's a darker character in literature at least for me, her husband didn't seem to care so much for her talents probable that he was far too masculine to accept her talents, but who am I to say, I have done much research, and I hope it shows in my peice also written through the eyes of another lady poet. Thank you my dear sorrenbarret for your wonderful gracious and incredibly rewarding review 💜

She was special Teddy. A huge talent. She had problems with her mental health that were exasperated by the crow she married. An excellent poet himself, but a lousy husband. She didn’t get the love she deserved, became unbalanced and had a tragic ending leaving behind two young children. She leaves a decent legacy , but it could have been so much more without Ted. You have portrayed her here sympathetically. She had a streak of genius in her. Great work yourself. I am a fan of you both.

              • Teddy.15

We'll now I'm blushing, thank you so much my dear Cassie, we are in a threesome for talent in that case 🤣 very kind of you always dear friend. 🌹

                Sylvia Plath....
a woman whose poetry I have loved and lived with for many a year.
and now, Teddy has wrritten a poem I am sure she would hold true to her heart,
as I will hold to mine.
close your eyes and listen to the applause....
                very much deserved x

Dear Melvin, I did quite a bit of research I'm thrilled it's been of use, she was a very misunderstood poet, and I'm glad I can give her a tiny bit of respect and glory. It was you who taught me about Sylvia Plath, thank you. 🌹
