The Lies

Poetic Licence

The Lies.

The lies hidden in those big eyes.

Control you by the deceptive smile.

Down the garden path you are led.

She seduces you in your old head.

She spins a confusing tangled web.

Grant her wishes you have been fed.

She takes your ageing foolish heart.

Proceeds to slowly dissect it apart.

If I never saw those sparkling eyes.

I would never have believed the lies.

I would have been content as I was.

And realised who ever needed love.

Show me a man who denies ever being led up the garden path by the flutter of eyelashes, or the sway of a hip & by Jove, I'll point out a liar .. we are but fools at the end of the day .. Neville

Brief but very effective. A brlliant use of word economy. You paint a true picture in this poem, Tobani. Faved!

La, how this culls to mind the mutitudinous references in the Scriptures to this very pitfall. How every last one of us falls prey before we realize what's afoot. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy, thank you very much for sharing!
