A grip too tight

sorenbarrett

Dependency is a tendency to use a iron glove not love
Whether a mother or a lover, another's independence does shove
To grovel in a bubble of reliance with walls of compliance
Until soon the one within, pops the bubble with a pin of defiance

From a balloon hollow, tantrums follow a fire out of control
With no walls to prevent falls no parent on patrol
Without a guide by its side baby begins to explore
Until it crawls and then falls, from the window of the eighth floor

Reminds me of the Conor Clapton toddler tragedy… “Tears in Heaven” but on the reverse side the iron grip that ruins people for life- far too many resulting crimes against humanity demonstrate this. 🙏🏻🕊

Thanks Cryptic for the read and comment. Yes sometimes people fall out of accident, sometimes neglect, others abuse and still others from being too accustomed to freedom.

          • arqios

Indeed! Quite bewildering and tragic and amazing all in the same breath 🕊🙏🏻

Thank you for your most insightful read and interpretation. Dependence and independence is a complex balance between too much and too little and where the fulcrum lies may shift from one case to another.

Wow! I am not sure if this inspired by a real event, but the metaphor for relationships is stark and real! Well done, an easy fave! ❤️🙏

Thanks so much Tristan your read and comments are most appreciated. The balance between control and not is a delicate one for a parent. I haven't always been the best at balance. You learn more with each child hopefully and each relationship as well

                            • Tristan Robert Lange

Ah. Indeed. I knew it was regarding relationships and that makes perfect sense. Also, very relieved to hear a baby didn't literally fall out an 8 story window. Whew. Not that it would be cool at any age. Well done, on this. As a parent myself, I surely relate. I'd imagine many do. Again, well done!
