On a bright cold Sunday morning

Tom Dylan

Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
Sorry if there is a delay in responses. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon said, life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

On a bright and cold Sunday morning

I set out on my all-important quest,

the roads and pavements are empty

at this early hour,

the shops all have their eye-lid shutters

pulled down tight.

My breath hangs on the air as I walk.

I wrap my coat tighter around me

and quicken my pace.

The blue morning sky over-head

hints at a warm afternoon,

an image of cold beer and

garden furniture

comes to my hopeful mind.

I walk on to the only open shop,

jangling the change in my hand,

lured to the glow of the welcoming light.

The glass milk bottle is cold in my grip

as I return home to the boiling kettle.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Disaster struck on Sunday morning. We ran out of milk. I had to head out early doors for a bottle of milk. I was the only person on the street. I tried to capture it in a poem.

That does happen and one does what’s gotta be done! πŸ•ŠπŸ™πŸ»

Yeah, it was a nice bright morning, and strange that there was nobody else around. And then back home for my morning brew. πŸ™‚

A disaster breeds an opportunity and it is set in the concrete of the words. A lovely poem

When disasters lend themselves to opportunities to adventure and write about it! Enjoyed this much, Tom! 🌹

Honestly, it was like something from a film. I felt like the only person on the planet. Thanks as always for your comments, mate. Really appreciated.

Yes, Like when the guy in 28 days later wakes up and the entire planet is silent and still...minus the zombies that show up not much later, of course! Creepy, but cool at the same time! And, thankfully, in your case...no zombies! You are welcome, my friend!

              • Tom Dylan

Yeah it was like 28 Days later, or Vanilla Sky, where Tom Cruise is alone in the usually packed Times Square.

Ooh. Yes. I remember that scene! Eery!

The streets at peace and all to yourself, how often will that happen, enjoyed the read

That\'s exactly it. It was so nice and I was only out and about because I needed milk. πŸ™‚

Yes , there's something I've always liked about being out on a early morning and it's so quiet.
As for the Milk: A pet Cow ?

                    • Tom Dylan

Yes, the early morning is really quite special. And yeah, a pet cow and some chickens for the eggs I think. πŸ™‚

Early morning walks can be lonely but also inspiring Tom. I hope you enjoyed your cuppa.

I really did, Andy. My morning brew was made all the better by the walk. I might make it a thing. Thanks for your comments.

La dee! Yet what a very charming way to begin the morning on that characteristic day of rest, whose inherent calm seems to pervade. How gorgeously rendered in winsome directness, as if to disarm aught pretension; laden with such excellent imagery its delicate poignancy seems to hang, poised like a dewdrop. I love it. Thank you so very much for sharing.
