I'm Sorry

Tony36

Looking at the pictures of you and the kids

Brings back memories good and bad

You and the kids left

I can't blame you

I know I was a neglectful husband and father

I know I messed up

I know you couldn't handle my ways any longer

You did what was best

I'm sorry I treated you and the kids the way I did

I'm sorry at the times my temper flew out of control

I know it scared you everytime I punched the wall

I never layed a harmful hand on you or the kids

That you know is true

Yes I drank to much at times

When Life went downhill

I know I blamed you

I know now that wasn't true

I know now it was the booze

My drinking was just the start

Much worse happened

I'll leave that stuff between us

Though I never layed a harmful hand on you or the kids

Like I said before

I don't blame you for leaving

It was best

A sad recognition or responsibility for past actions leaving a sense of remorse. This poem is raw and spills the feelings for the reader to see. Heartfelt

That’s quite the summation… it’s far more comprehensive than my dad’s apology, and somehow it brings unexpected comfort and relief. Good write, Tony🙏🏻🕊

Well written piece here, you put your heart on your sleeve, or more like the paper. It was deep, I felt it.

Your style neither eliminates facts nor fiction until reading you from day to day can leave my head spinning. Eloquent and beautifully rendered with excellent imagery, the bittersweet poignancy haunts like the darkest chocolate lingers in the mouth. Thank you for sharing.

Very touching, Tony. I never presume to know whether a poet is writing about themselves personally or if the muse is leading into unfamiliar territory, but what I always know when I read your poetry, my friend, is that you have a whole hell of a lot of empathy and character. I have read so many different poems from you on countless things, from unicorns and dragons to peace on earth and good will toward humans. I know that wherever this poem came from, it poured out of a caring heart...a heart I am personally thankful for. So, all of that to say, BRAVO! 🌹👏 This poem is one of true remorse and true love. Letting go is the hardest thing love can ask of us. You expressed that so beautifully here. I could feel the pain...every word of it... BRAVO!

Empathy and self reflection are not easy to do. That's warrior heart in itself. I truly respect your honesty and admire your strength. It shows. Nice work

Maybe a hand wouldn't be laid on the kids, but little eyes can easily be haunted...
