Scent of the past

sorenbarrett

Hollyhocks, snapdragons, Chanel No 5, pine
The scent of yesterday peels off today's walls
A smell that ghosts enshrine
Memory's bent echo calls

Air filled with fragrances yet to come
The smell of anxiety and anticipation
Turning time's page with a thumb
The last lingering odor of reservation

          Soren,
Made me think about past experiences, good times, good people, good memories. But also awakened me to my lack of anticipation for what is to come. New scents bring new experiences. Thank you dear poet for providing an aroma of reflection.

                  • Friendship

Your poem appears to examine the interplay between memory, scent, and the passage of time, reflecting on how fragrances can evoke nostalgia and influence emotions, thereby intertwining past experiences with present feelings of anxiety and anticipation. The smell of anxiety and anticipation serves as a metaphor for the emotional weight of the present, underscoring how the future can be both exciting and daunting. Soren, your poem also seeks to underscore the significance of scent in shaping our memories and emotions, illustrating how the past informs the present and future, and encouraging readers to consider their own associations with scents and how they evoke personal memories and feelings.

Smell is the most relevant of the senses to bring back memories soren.

                                  Andy

                                  • sorenbarrett

So correct Andy and I find working every day. Sometimes if not paying attention we wonder where an emotion or thought comes from without noticing that is stimulated by a smell. Appreciate your read and understanding words.
