Big boys don't cry
Many young men are told this in their youth
By fathers
By uncles
By other guiding lights
The truth is
Big boys do cry
When they are hurt
Only children hold it in
Because so many have heard those words
They fail to have an outlet
They fail to truly grow
So when the world hurts them
They fight back
They lash out
They become violent
Overgrown children scared of being seen as weak
But
They fail to understand the true damage they do to themselves
As well as all those around them
Big boys don't cry
What a lie

Cry when there is no audience, no witnesses to what was deemed weakness. In many cases it still is. 🙏🏻🕊️
Thank you
What a lie indeed. More men need to be reading your poetry, Tony! Thanks for the message! 🌹👏
Thank you
A most modern view indeed. Yes men have always cried on the inside but not until recently on the outside. Stereotypes Very British not to cry, Very Italian to cry. Loved the poem
Thank you
You couldn't be more on point. I'm a big boy (85) who can't cry because I took those words to heart in my youth and they now live in my subconscious. I'm sure that there are many others.
Thank you
Indeed that is so true. Those who shed tears are those who care.Important poem

A well written write on an important issue, nicely done
