Who died and made you God

sorenbarrett

Of beauty unashamed, ugliness never framed, blemishes we attack
To be fair, should we not compare lies white or black
Clouds roam the sky, but wet rain is dry, hopes denied or fulfilled
Don't let tear drops fly from a jealous eye over milk that is spilled

A disfigured face, comeliness erase, covering charm one can not see
Without alure, vision becomes a blur, golden virtue discarded as debris
Gold rejected, a seed neglected, hidden beneath a boulder
A calcified lie truth will deny in the eye of the blinded beholder

A powerful well constructed piece. There is certainly some anger here.Very emotional write.Well done

        • sorenbarrett

Thank you for your review David. Anger comes from pain and pain is experienced in the reactions of others be it physical or emotional. I appreciate your comments and insight

Those that pull of a pretty cry-face could probably fool the rest of us but the pain and hurt is always real. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ•Š

I was a bit amused by the title for Holy Week.Your poem delves into the dichotomies between beauty and ugliness, truth and deception, and societal notions of worth, implying that external appearances can conceal deeper truths. It suggests that judgments based on superficial qualities can lead to overlooking inherent value. You appear to prompt introspection and encourage readers to transcend surface-level appearances, advocating for a more nuanced understanding of beauty and worth in both themselves and others. Furthermore, it underscores the perils of jealousy and superficial judgments that can result in misunderstanding and disconnection.

Thank you Friendship for your insightful read and comment. Yes whether from personal prejudice or just neglect we often make judgements that are rash and ill founded as to worth. Appreciate your views

Ah, Soren, you have done it again. You have strummed across the strings of my heart. To love the human being is to look past all of the superficial, to look into the real depths of heart and soul. Thank you for sharing such a needed message.

                  • sorenbarrett

I thank you MD for such a gracious and kind review. It is our eyes, ears, touch and smell that blind us to what beauty really is. They all cast shadows over our mind and fool it into believing that those things are important.

"Beauty is more than just skin deep", or so the saying goes. And it is truth. In fact, the reverse is quite true as well: true ugliness is never a mere surface appearance. I have met some "beautiful" people who turned out quite ugly. When one comes to see the person for who they are, not just what they look like, that is when one can tell the true beauty or ugliness of a person. A most profound and true write, Soren. Well done! πŸŒΉπŸ‘

So true Tristan as they say all that shines is not gold. There are many gilded people out there. I appreciate your read and most kind words of support.

Indeed. You are most welcome, Soren.

Good write A. There is suffering, sickness, etc, in life, as we know. But one wanted to impress a religious person, and said, 'Oh, I've suffered greatly'. The reply they got was:' To what wonderful degree of ecstasy have you been exalted to, that you compare your sufferings to St Paul and his 'thorn in the flesh?!' (usually taken to mean some painful physical ailment - a book had 4 chapters on it!).

Beauty is within our bodies soren the outside that is seen can mean nothing.

so true - beauty does lie in the eye of the beholder, and many a time, only the outward manifestations are noticed - the inner beauty is overlooked.
                            beautiful piece of work
