Footprints on a beaten path

sorenbarrett

Many yearn for fame, others honor, some for recognition. A poet is only the tool, so few reach acclaim, Homer, Shakespeare, Poe, Longfellow, to mention a few.  It is not our image or words that remain for posterity but the distant vestiges left in their minds that they can no longer identify with what was written or where it was heard. We are embers of past fires buried under time's ashes, whispers forgotten of foot prints eroded, echoing in the minds of the future

So very beautifully said, in a poem, ironic as it is, it just brings me back to the great Vincent Van Gogh, who I once had the great privilege to study, I always believe he was a poet and a painter and he used his work so very carefully with his muse, he always believed he should have had recognition and in the end was his downfall. A wonderful theme and read dear sorrenbarret 🌹

Your poem shows how poets may be forgotten, but their words can still touch people in the future, even if no one remembers where they came from. Very well written!!!

Indeed you understand. There is a fragrance left behind that may not be identifiable but lingers and evokes distant memories and provokes thoughts and emotions resurrected. Thank you Salvia for the read and interpretation

Your poem beautifully reminds both poets and readers of the profound impact of poetry that extends far beyond immediate recognition, highlighting the significance of the emotional and intellectual connections that art so powerfully forges. It reflects on the inspiring idea that while individual poets may fade into obscurity, their work can continue to resonate in ways that are often unrecognized, leaving a lasting legacy. The entire poem functions as a metaphor for the poet's role as a tool and the enduring legacy of their work.
