The struggle to cope—
To live—
Is real. So very real.
Not in the “brink of oblivion” sense—
Heaven forbid it comes to that—
But in the day-to-day,
The fucking war
That wages on endlessly,
The trying to balance

Not that I am truly impoverished.
I am not.
But my mental health needs
Surpass my means all the same.
Society does not care.
Compassion has an expiration date.
Empathy is, now, a sin.
Weakness, a blight.
Dogs eat dogs,
An ugly sight.
And at the end of it all—
The blight to be expired—
Where does this leave me?
Worse than me,
Where does
This leave
Others?

Sometimes the madness in me is what others find interesting and adorable, so I pack it away neat and tidy until itβs called for πππ»
Hahaha! Indeed, our curse is also our charm, when it can be. LOL! Thanks for your read and feedback, my friend. πΉπ
Most welcome ππ» π
Madness a matter of degree, yes we all are a little mad most all of the time. Freud said that we are either psychotic or neurotic take your pick. After all what is madness anyway just being too much different from the others. And what of when the majority is unloving, uncaring, selfish, depressed does that mean that to be giving, loving, happy is madness? A lovely write Tristan.
Indeed, all very profound and important questions, my friend. Rhetorical, and they lead right to the point you and I are both making. Thank you so much for your time, your insight, and your support. Always. π§ πππ€
like Jesus, we must sometimes: show the way (even to ourselves, and not follow any of the ways or mindsets of others around us). but I doubt your poem, though i hear and understand too. perhaps it is a state of mind?
This is very true, and Jesus did model that for us. Thank God for it too. Much appreciated my friend. Thank you for your time and your thoughts! π§ πππ€
you're welcome. I hoped you wouldn't take that the wrong way. maybe a lot of poems are doubtful, can be to a person, and mine to them ... different lives and mindsets, but very real to the person writing, creating the poem, or not. could be imagined, about imaginary stuff too, or just writing and that's what happens to get written. probably a complicated subject really. maybe you could tackle it sometime, if you.havent already. ππ
Indeed. Thank you for the suggestion. Maybe I will. The muse did perk up a bit at the idea. π
Did Norman write this. Good write, Obi, erm, Tristan. ππ€£
Haha! Maybe? π€ Thank you, Mr. Wan Kenobi! π€£ π§ πππ€
This is deeply honest and movingβcaptures the quiet pain of daily survival with sharp clarity.
Thank you so much, Salvia! Your time, your thoughts and insights are very much valued and appreciated, my friend! π§ πππ€
Not me. I'm just a little crazy all the time, and that's just me, my personality. It is indeed a cruel world, and bullies will target you in lieu of their victims if you stand in their way, but, that's just the way it goes. Gorgeously rendered with exquisite imagery and a very haunting poignancy indeed! Thank you for sharing.
A cruel world, indeed. Thank you so much for your time, your insights and your understanding, dear Missy. Much appreciated! π§ πππ€
How come you know my alias name - Mr OWK? Ooh! LOL.
Hahahaha. That sounds like an Owl yaking! I am not sure...wild guess? π€·ββοΈπ€£ You rock, Obi...erm...Orchi!
Excellent write Tristan
Thank you, Tony, much appreciated, my friend! π§ πππ€
You're welcome
As per (most of) the conversation above, madness is a relative concept. And you have nailed it nicely Tristan.
However let's not forget the deeply psychotic for whom madness is a disabling curse. (Not you - otherwise you would be incapable of your lines here.)
Well, damn Dave, I am sorry I am this late in replying. I don't know how I missed all of these extra comments. So, my apologies. π± As for the poem, indeed, my friend. Thankfully my disability has not fully incapacitated me like it has others. Indeed, this poem is as much for them as it is for anyone else and you are right to point that out. Thank you, as always Dave, for your time, thoughtful feedback and support. Much appreciated, my friend! π§ πππ€
In the grand tradition hereabouts: You are very welcome.

My family think I'm a tad eccentric but that's not the case - I could even be classed as slightly mad - but in truth I simply retain a streak of childish humour which keeps my brain working looking for the next humerous poem to post here on MPS.
And, I for one, am damn thankful for that, Michael. I apologize for my tardiness in responding. I do not know what happened to me between your comment and now. I will blame a Sith Lord for it though! After all, today is Revenge of the 5th. May the 4th and the 5th be with you, my friend! π€£ Your time, thoughts and support are always valued! π§ πππ€
"Compassion has an expiration date." What a line! It's all too true...the people are willing to help...until they aren't.
It is the truth, though, right?! Thank you so much, dear poet and friend. I am glad to see you here again, and glad the poem delivered! Also glad that your comment made me realize I accidentally ghosted other people's comments. So...thank you for all of that! π€π§ πππ€
Haha I got you!
