Devil deeds angel thoughts

sorenbarrett

We're not responsible for what we think, only for what we do
No shame for the feelings we drink just for deeds we eschew
Some say thoughts precede the deeds, they are planted seeds
But no they're not, they are just a thought from it no one bleeds
A wish is no crime, from it you'll do no time, dream your stomach full
Swallow your desires, put out burning fires, over your eyes pull the wool

      A striking reflection on inner conflict—dark thoughts contrasted with disciplined actions, expressed with rhythm and edge.
      Love it !!!

      • sorenbarrett

        Thanks Salvia. We all have dark thoughts from time to time but they are not punishable only the deeds we allow and perform. Your words are most appreciated and your understanding interpretation.

        To live in self-deception for the sake of outward peace and decency — that is the real drama.
        A deeply philosophical poem, striking in its honesty. I like it!

          Unthought out motives is impossible to prove, let alone establish. I wonder how the legal system works this out. Intriguing stuff🕊️🙏🏻

          • sorenbarrett

            Thank Cryptic for the review yes some lovers believe that one must be faithful in thought as well as deed but that is an impossible task and one should not be held accountable for one's thoughts only one's actions. Resistance to thoughts and temptations show the strength of the resolve. Appreciate your support

            • arqios

              In that context everything is cheating as no one can have 100% focus on their beloved. Solid point there. 🙏🏻🕊️

              Well said ,Soren,Your poem inspires self-reflection on personal responsibility and morality, empowering readers to weigh their desires and distinguish between thoughts and actions. It prompts introspection about guilt, freedom, and the human emotional experience, offering a profound exploration of moral conflict through the contrasting metaphors of "devil deeds" and "angel thoughts".

                    To add more - I've gone along with 'Thoughts lead to feelings, and feelings lead to behaviour'. I can't see how it can be 'feelings' first. Somehow I think(!) we must have a thought first.
                    Me thinking? used up all me 3 brain cells now, for today. LOL.

                    • sorenbarrett

                      Ah Orchi that is debatable and you might be right but if you ever saw a pretty girl the sex meter tells you before the brain gets in gear. Doesn't matter though as long as the engine is running you must keep it in park that's what counts. Thanks so much for reading your remarks and observations are always highly anticipated. Have a great day.

                      • orchidee

                        Doh! Me sex meter has stuck at zero since I married KP. Well, Fido advised me not to have much 'excitement' when I married her. No chance of that with KP though! LOL.

                        worthy of much applause Soren,
                        as always.

                          An interesting concept that bears the question, whose the judge of another's thoughts. Well, I guess we don't have to live long and share much to find out other humans can be. Of course, for those who believe, there's God. Does God judge our thoughts? It seems not so long as those thoughts don't take root in the heart...which is a broad difference from those who are simply thinking thoughts. For something to take root, it then grows, it spreads and, of course that alone is actionable not to mention that the spreading often goes beyond the individual in harmful ways. A most thought-provoking poem, Soren. Another fave. 🌹👏

                          • sorenbarrett

                            Thanks so much Tristan for the review and comment. Of course I don't know but believe that thoughts are the one area that are not to be judged by any even ourselves. Thoughts become the adversity one has to show strength of overcoming in action and I believe one far stronger and more admirable that overcomes adverse thoughts than one that doesn't have them.

                              Oh, I hear you there for sure. And yes, I fully agree with you. Amen on that. 💯 You are most welcome, my friend.

                              You're not at fault thinking a bad thought! But choosing to continue to think about it, perhaps maybe then a little.

                              • sorenbarrett

                                Thanks so much for the read and comment. Yes all a very debatable issue depending on whether you believe intrusive thoughts are under a person's control. Your thoughts are most appreciated.

                                “Watch your thoughts,
                                they become your words;
                                watch your words,
                                they become your actions;
                                watch your actions,
                                they become your habits;
                                watch your habits,
                                they become your character;
                                watch your character,
                                it becomes your destiny.”

                                The tragedy is that we have no control over our thoughts. Hitler’s mind told him to wage wars, regardless. We know the consequences. It is the same with all those who launched wars. Thoughts lead in the end to character, which itself defines your destiny.
                                In the end, we have no control over the whole process.

                                  Thank you so much Soman for your review and interpretation it is most welcome and valued. Yes I suppose it is a matter of whether a person believes in free will of destiny. With free will one can grow from adversity managed while with destiny one just follows the path.
