Thredbo (Winter 2025)

arqios

Notice of absence from arqios
๐Ÿ•Š ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป often and again, away ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Snow finds the peaks first.

Dusts the rocks,

a quiet landing overnight.

Thredbo wakes white,

a surprise for the valley.

Gum trees wear

a light, cold cloak.

The air bites clean.

Chairlifts hang still,

waiting.

A bloke sees his breath,

puffs of white on the crisp morning.

The mountain just changed its coat.

Winter's here,

a soft, bright start.

Beautiful imageryโ€”I can almost feel the crisp winter air and see the snow-dusted peaks. A lovely, serene start to the season in Thredbo!

Reminds of the one time i went skiing, absolutely hated it, the most fake environment I have ever been in, that said this is a lovely write, with lovely images of the first virgin snow falling, enjoyed the read

Well when you put it like that, It's beautiful. Full marks for the poetry.

Once upon a time I experienced Thredbo in winter..............

              • arqios

Words can prettify and also fall short deep on the actual experience. We almost got caught in that early 2000 disaster, if circumstances werenโ€™t such. Then we had the mine disaster in Tassie and the sandstorms and droughtโ€ฆ. Crazy timesโ€ฆ

                • Doggerel Dave

Got that right. My experience a combo of PL's above plus a futile attempt to get chains on wheels stuck by a slushy road and with frozen hands.

Oh the ones just before frostbite sets in! That is quite horrid indeed.... perhaps why I decided to paint a rosier picture... must be in denial, I is ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

                      ๐Ÿ˜‚Nah , not denial - it's poetry innit?

Wonderful images cast in this poem of the seasons. I too headed into winter can feel this change in my memories of winter's onset. Loved it
