Up the stairs we climbed,
My brother and I,
We went through a doorway
And there below me,
And above me, was a wondrous sight,
The glory of the Albert Hall.
Seats all around,
Filling slowly until most were full,
Awaiting the glory of Ludwig’s music.
As I looked at this multi assembled throng
A pleasing thought came to me,
There were so many young people,
Young people coming to hear the music
First heard two hundred years ago.
The concert was wonderful,
Took me into the world
Where Beethoven lived,
And beyond.
Into a world of euphoria
Where all was glorious.
As I left the Hall
I walked through Hyde Park
Towards my station,
The thought that stuck with me
Was the joy of seeing so many young people
Enjoying great music,
And treating it with the reverence
It duly deserves.
Beethoven will live on,
As these young people
Will still be listening to it
After I am gone.

So I know we have discussed this before, but I have been very lucky in my life to be able to say I have sung at the Royal Albert Hall.
Joyce, my wife who passed just over five years ago, also sang at the Royal Albert Hall.
