Skating

John Prophet

Skating.
Skating
on the
surface
of a
bottomless
pond.
Infinite
depth.
Spinning.
Spinning
figure eight
contemplation.
Surface,
thick and
hard.
Postulating
subsurface,
minimum
results.
Blades
scratching
the surface.
Reality
complex,
beyond
reason.
Beyond
scope of
understanding.
Spinning
faster.
Skating
to no
avail.
Eons in
attempt,
mere
scratches
on the
surface.
Bottomless
pond of
understanding
forever
out of
mere mortal
reach.

"Figure eight" a beautiful deliberate symbol of infinity looping atop a void. Its spinning, evoking ritual and futility, having us suspended knowing and unknowable, cutting arcs on ice that never cracks, on meaning that never yields. It also exposes the tension between our yearning to understand and the cold reality that some truths remain bottomless, resistant to expression, comprehension or even closure.🕊️🙏🏻

Ice hard and cold as is the truth that lies beneath. Impenetrable, ice is semitransparent and part of what lies beneath can be seen but only partially and is inaccessible, as cryptic note the figure eight is a symbol of infinity never ending and unknowable. All we know are just scratches on the surface. Well written John.

Nicely crafted write, with the figure of eight, stone cold and hard as the truth can be, and that not evertthing is accessible in life even if we can see it, enjoyed the read

That understanding may come to us all one day John.
