I do return sometimes... occasionally...AI out! AI out!
So IVF is on the rise today,
At least for the wealthy in wealthy parts.
Reproduction seen as marriage’s mainstay;
Can there not be more to life, my sweethearts?
Please let me know how come reproduction,
The primary aim for many today
Remains the pinnacle of ambition;
There’s much more in this world with which to play.
Human rabbits are in a separate class;
They push them out anyway reason lost
Ignoring war and strife which come to pass:
Just keep fucking no matter what the cost.
No, my address here is to those with choice:
You can’t have them naturally? Why bother?
If you can’t have them naturally then rejoice
(I had no ambition to be a father).
More in an overpopulated world?
Yes the imperative is to pump them out,
Purveyed by powerful interests, their need curled
Around sales, demand is all it’s about.

- Comment from author about the poem: News round my way of a couple of wrongful implants into wombs (that we know about) bought the topic to my attention…Apologies for any offense – my position is made clear last line fourth stanza.

You, and some other charming fellows I know and dearly love--what's with your claim the world is "overpopulated"?! Come again?! Not like I'm guilty anywho. Yes, surrogacy is the trendiest thing on the marriage scene, seems. But, dang! I can still remember the court battles over "Baby--" whose birth mother claimed him for herself despite being only the surrogate. I begin to think the issue is not so much more or less people, but something far more creepy. Beautifully rendered diatribe, complete with excellent imagery and a weirdly haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
Come on - depletion of resources, the environment, climate change, overpopulation.... anyway, let all that lie. Great of you to be so prompt in support, Missy.
Yeh - thanks for reminding me of surrogacy. The issues which prompted this were as far as I can tell, fertilized eggs being popped into the wrong mother....I see an element of creepiness in the whole damn thing too.
Thanks once more for the support.
My pleasure, you're more than welcome. The entire trend has been a bee in my bonnet since rearing its head, whence my response.
I can understand it for a couple who struggle to have children but to just do it because you can is shameful. Fine words Dave.
Andy
Cheers Andy. Thanks.
Tend to agree Dave too many people. But then that gets down to which ones are the too many? Don't want to leave that up to any world leader. It seems that the poorest are the ones with the most and maybe that is mother nature telling us that we are a dead end on the evolutionary tree. Man's attempt at IVF is another attempt at fighting mother nature and we all know how that fight works out. My money is on mother nature. Good write my friend
Well, I've read this through a couple of times Soren and cannot find anything to disagree with...What a disappointment😆
Yeh - my money is on Mother?Nature too.👍
Oh Dave you made me laugh and that deserves a fave but there is no box here.
Have another look it's there when you go into full poem mode on my page.
But don't bust yourself about it.
There is no need for any form of IVF, there are more than enough children or babies out there to be fostered or adopted and in need of a loving home , a very interesting and no doubt thought provoking write, enjoyed the read
Yes - I think your response also tickles the edge of the abortion debate and please preserve me from entering there.
Thanks for your reply and support, Tobani.
You are very welcome
There are really good reasons to have children and really bad reasons. Doing so because one feels they have to or that their lives are a waste if they don't, are really bad reasons. So is doing so because one billionaire, or all of them, tell you to...or because some religious leader tells you to. Bad reasons. You are spot on, my friend. A must fave for the truth alone! 👏🌹
Your breakdown here is great, Tristan. Too many bad reasons for having kids. The primary question (gnawed at before by me) should be: 'Will, given our current circumstances, this child be allowed to achieve their full potential?'
The energy and effort you put into this site is truly admirable.
Some people really want kids and go through expensive treatments to have them. But the poet voice wonders why is having children treated as life’s biggest goal? There’s so much more to life than just reproducing. They point out that many people keep having kids, even during hard times, without thinking twice. But the poetic voice isn’t judging everyone; just asking people who can choose to think twice. If having kids doesn’t come naturally, maybe that’s okay. Maybe it’s something to accept, not “fix.” In a crowded world, we might need less pressure to have more people. Maybe it’s more about money and pressure than true need.
Thanks for that Rik. I couldn't have asked for a more comprehensive summary of my paltry poetic position than that. It obviously made sense to you. Did you agree?
Thanks again for the input, Mate.
With things like this it's often case to case. But greed and keeping up with the Joneses is always high on the to be considered list. But that's just me. 😊
