A strange guy

sorenbarrett

He tangos on a tightrope, blows smoke rings in a hurricane
Smokes dope with the pope, tames the brain of the insane
Harvests a bushel of clouds, raindrops picked from their stems
His prayers gathered out of lathered old church hymns

He rides in a wheelchair that's broke, tires, deflated, had no spoke
Lacking hot air he had no spare, a little flat on the blown joke
Prophesies made off the label of an old jar of marmalade
Although worst, let someone else go first, to receive second aid

Your words dance on the edge of wonder and wit—surreal, vivid, and utterly captivating. A brilliant blend of chaos and charm!

    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Mottakeenur one of those strange mood when odd thoughts combine with a more serious meaning and mask all in absurd images, some call it insanity or a substance altered state but having taken nothing to alter the state I call it a poetic cosmic joke. I appreciate the read and kind words of comment.

Thanks David for the review and words of support. Yes I think you have captured it our world is governed and run by circus clowns some crippled by age and others by aspirations and mental ability.

How marvelous, you know our world is topsy-turvy upside down, it's all madness and it's in the most amazing poetry form, I couldn't agree more with the first review wit and charm, as only you can do it dear sorrenbarrett. Marvelous. 🌹

Thank you so much my friend for your read and understanding of this rather flippant view of the world and its leaders. Your support and encouragement mean a great deal.

It is like being taken on a wild, surreal ride; a collage of contradictions and improbable images that somehow coalesce into the portrait of a chaotic, almost mythic figure. The titular “strange guy” feels like a trickster saint, stitched together from satire, sorrow, and cosmic whimsy. And it isn’t just eccentricity for its own sake but reads like commentary on the absurdity of modern prophecy, of being human in a world that doesn’t quite make sense: perhaps even a mad-poet oracle. 🙏🏻🕊️

A lovely piece of poetic humour of the reality that the world is being run by a bunch of clowns with varying if no ability or compassion, this will be one big top that does come crashing down, enjoyed the read

                        • Tristan Robert Lange

This poem, Soren,, is playful, surreal, and tinged with irony. I love your use of absurdist imagery to sketch a character who is both whimsical and tragic—a kind of poetic trickster or holy fool. The character of the poem defies rules and expectations, bending reality with an air of tragic whimsy, operating in a nonsensical or distorted world but continuing to act with intent, if not wisdom. One of the strangest—and sharpest—character sketches I’ve read in a while...in all of the right ways. Well done, dear poet and friend! 🌹👏
