Riverbank

Kenny O'Donnell

The river bank crumbles beneath my knees

Sediment slides into the current and I sink slowly closer to the wash.

And I should just lean forward

My heart wills it

My gut senses it

Land in the water chest first, and see where it takes me.

Some will call it brave

Others call it stupid

Maybe it's both and neither.

Certainly, to not drown just a little bit in life is at least one.

But who can truly tell.

You might have something worth drowning for.

And the decision is made for you already,

You simply have to fall into the waters

And see where it takes you

Ooh! But you've played the metaphor gorgeously herein. Wow. Both the thing itself and the larger scope of reality. Awesome! I love, love, LOVE it!!!! Superbly rendered with nigh exquisite imagery and a deliciously haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.

If you leave the choice out of your hands then you need to be ready to face the consequences.
