Visit with a dream

sorenbarrett

Come on in outa da wind, sit on down ave some gin.
Been warm taday, dry too.
Ain't seen rain in a while but sure good ta see ya an yer smile,
A'll ave Ma put some more water in da stew.
Wull ba a bit watery but ya don't mind do you?
Got dat lower forty ta plough, battery's  dead but a'll figure it out some how.
Dirt dry as a bone hard as stone ain't seen no rain since last year.
Think what ah planted l'be commin up soon.
Ya say it's November, don't matter
A'll put the next crop in after da full moon.
Ain't got no mo water ya say, Ma jus brought ya some yesterday.
Guess what we got fer da stew will ave ta do, dat all right wid you?

'Rich' is a key word I'd use here: rich in dialogue born of rich experience gained from a rich and varied life. Sounded richly authentic to me, Soren.

A really fun read my friend. Having grown up in rural, farmland in the Skylands region of NJ (if one outside of NJ can believe that exists...it does). Love mountains, love nature, love farms (not factory farms...but farms). So, this hit home for me, my friend! 🌹👏

A moving glimpse into rural hardship and quiet resilience—loved the raw, authentic voice and tender hope within.
Felt like sitting beside the speaker, sharing warmth in a dry, dusty world.

Thank you Mottakeenur for your review and most kind supportive encouragement. Sometimes there are just echoes from a distant past to put down.

Again such great rhyme in here. I love the turns of phrase you use. Is it indicative of a certain culture or ethnicity pardon my ignorance or is it just colloquial creative expressions that you are using? The abbreviated words really fit the rhyme scheme well and the overall descriptive imagery and warmth in the tonal ideas of the poem had me pondering about friendship and stew & human relationships and the warmth of good hospitality. Thankyou thoroughly enjoyed this composition. Sincerely, Elizabeth

The wording is a blend of what came generations ago from the hills of Tennessee adapted in the west and what I grew up with in another generation. Thank you so much for the review and most kind words of support and encouragement it is appreciated Sorry for the delay in responding this one went overlooked for some reason

                                • ElizabethMoroz

Thanks for your explanation that’s intriguu in ing linguistically and the generational difference is fascinating. What a rich lexicon you have. Your most welcome I find a lot of delight in reading your work so my encouragement comes from a place of gratitude for your insight and skill in writing it. Enjoy your day Soren. Sincerely, Elizabeth
