The Influencer

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I do return sometimes... occasionally...

The other day an influencer popped up on my screen;

I don’t know how she got there, don’t remember where I’d been.

Wanted to involve me in some complicated investment scheme:

You’ll make a mighty motza, just join me and go with the flow,

In a world so uncertain, you can’t afford to let this go.

So I informed her that I was an octogenarian and needed no more money.

That’s all right she responded, I do a sideline in large tanks with octopuses, honey.

Love word play Dave but I don't understand what bee's have to do with it. And I don't think that those eight legged creatures eat it on toast. At least my octopus never did. Made me laugh and that gets a fave

  • Doggerel Dave

Well thanks for the fave, Soren - can't let that go. However, not quite clesr where bees and toast appeared in the above. You sure they aren't interlopers from some other campaign you are conducting elsewhere?
This one was a very quick flash in my head before supper and was motivated by my general irritation (mild term) with the whole concept of influencers.
    Thanks for your support, mate.

    Octogenarianpuses??

    • Doggerel Dave

Well, could be - language evolves, don't it?

      • 2781

        I regress!

        • Doggerel Dave

          Suppress?

          • 2781

Not generally, but it can be a wise move.

A very entertaining read that still makes a point about the shallow dishonest influencers trying to fleece anyone of their hard earned pennies, enjoyed the read

            • Doggerel Dave

Yes the concept bugs me. Even more that there are swathes of people prepared to listen to and act upon their advice. What happened to critical thinking? Oh yeh - that's a subject now taught in schools, I hear. Wot? I was never taught critical thinking at school.....
I actually don't mind idiots being fleeced of their pennies, though.. it's more subtle forms of brain washing I object to...
This was really just fun, so glad you enjoyed.

              • Poetic Licence

                You are very welcome

Me too and my poem/s on that remain unposted just in case they try something funny. But I do get where this is coming from. Good stuff🕊️🙏🏻

                • Doggerel Dave

Was a joke, but all humour (in my case attempted) has an underlying base in reality somewhere. Mine as above. I don't think they'll get at you somehow, so I wouldn't mind a sample of your ammunition...
Anyway I'm happy the underlying message is clear enough.
                  Thanks for your support.

It's more than adequate mate! We'll so what I can sort out on that end.😁

Oh Dave…this had me chuckling from the jump. 🤭 That closing line, though, is absolute pure fire 🔥 “Large tanks for octopuses, honey”—I mean, c’mon! 😜 Love it! Playful, smart, and sly in all the right ways. Well done, my friend! 🌹👏

                    • Doggerel Dave

I always look forward to your affirmations and approvals, Tristan. And this is no exception. I was toying with the idea that “Large tanks for octopuses, honey” could read “Large tanks with octopuses, honey” instead, then hunger and supper intervened, and until you mentioned it.....

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

LOL! You are welcome, my friend! Thoroughly enjoyed!

                        Awesome

                        • Doggerel Dave

                          Thank you kindly.

                            You're welcome

                          • orchidee

I can't influence my way out of a paper bag even! lol.

                            • Doggerel Dave

Yes I have felt that sometimes you were at a loss orchi, but occasionally (very occasionally) you do have moments if vibrant inspiration......though please don't push me on when, I am quite busy right now..... la la LOL

                              • orchidee

Since when did I last say something sensible Was it around, ohh, 1975?! lol.

                                • Doggerel Dave

You have specifically been requested not to push me, Sir. Stap me vitals, how can I make this very serious issue any clearer?
I appreciate this is in total conformity with your standard modus operandi, but do understand I am a poet of delicate sensibility and you must be much more gentle with me.....

                                  • orchidee

I've influenced me out of this paper bag now. Now what will I do?! lol.

                                    • Doggerel Dave

                                      Breathe gently.

                                      • orchidee

I fought, I battled, I struggled - all to get out of this paper bag! heehee.

Money for old rope I say .. I also say, give em enough and they do tend to hang themselves .. I got a real thing about octopussies too squire .. just play along and we could be squids in ..

                                        • Doggerel Dave

Yep - away, completely away I say from this forgettable piece of flummery I too have a thing about octopuses. Anyway back to the rhyme: this was the first piece of more or less lighthearted stuff I'd done for a while.... getting harder....
