Forest fig

sorenbarrett

Born free, a wild tree with rambling shallow roots
that roamed the ground and found a home with nature's brutes
'Or earth you crawled, through rocks sprawled, sending out tender chutes
With wind you sinned, where'er you'd been, putting out new fruits

The fruits you drop become a new crop, your wood grown hard and dry
When you were small you dreamed to be tall, you wished to reach up high
Now in breezes you shake, brittle you break through winds I hear your cry
As smoke the clouds will be your shrouds, as you reach the sky

Nicely said. The poem "Forest Fig" embodies themes of growth, resilience, and the natural cycle of life, inspiring us to reflect on the journey of a tree, symbolizing the aspirations, struggles, and eventual transformation of living beings. The tree's evolution from a wild, free entity into a more brittle state invites a sense of nostalgia and contemplation about life's impermanence, the cyclical nature of existence, and the interconnectedness of all living things, uplifting us to cherish life's precious journey.

There is indeed a metaphor with humans. Humans, too, want to grow bigger and taller.
--"High regions are never without storms."
--"The higher you rise, the bigger the fall."
                --"High places have their precipices."
--"The highest tree has the greatest fall."
From the book "3000 proverbs" by Sam Phillips.

Soren, this utters wisdom with ancient breath. The fig becomes more than a tree...it’s all of us dreaming high and cracking in the wind. “When you were small you dreamed to be tall”…that line hit me like memory. Beautifully done, my friend. 🌹👏 A fave for sure.

                          Hello, Soren,

The duality, the is, the botanical and anthropological in metaphorical association, bound for the inevitable whilst nourishing their growth, spreading their seed for the next generation in the cyclical nature of life. The living and dying together and how we are all connected, both plant and animal in this well wrought and insightful verse rendered forth with a wonderful understanding of the poetic form. Excellent.

                          Wishing you all the best,

                          Tony.
