Falling for Icarus #2

Falling for Icarus

was sublime while it lasted ..

But in truth,

short-lived to say the least ..

And of course,

everything and I do mean

absolutely

everything, was stacked up

against him

on that last fateful day of his ..

For starters,

the sun was too low, whilst

my word,

how the wind blew his wings

askew as the

sea rose to meet him halfway ..

But oh’ boy,

what a learning curve, that one

final and grave,

miscalculation of his proved to be ..

What are the chances of a similar theme! It’s one of those myths that etched my formative years so it’s a repeat destination over the years. Glad to share in your takes and I am more enriched 🕊️🙏🏻

Neville, I love your wry, knowing touch…turning myth into a moment we can almost feel in the wind and salt spray. Even in the fall, there’s a grin in the telling. Cheers! 🍻 Loved it, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Hi Neville, please laugh your head off, but your style always evokes a kind of listening to jazz music in me. This poem being no exception. I simply love the transition from grandeur, to almost speech, and juxtaposition of ironic expressions.
Well, in short, loved the poem.
                        Thanks

He stands as a lesson to countless, and yet what half makes me shiver is how spot on your entire discussion on the topic and poor soul is. We reach for heights not ours to obtain, give all we have, only to find the odds stacked against us are beyond imagination thereby. Superbly rendered with excellent imagery and a killer poignancy. Thank you so very much for sharing.

You are just too sweet, and happily taken. Love you!
