No matter how pure a drop might be it is great only when joined in the sea
A poem perfect meter and rhyme is only famous when by others judged sublime
How fickle tongues of acclaim that one poem shame and another give fame
Novels by millions now lie dead, prize winners only those that are read
No claim can be made for greatness in perfection without public detection

How incredibly write you are sorenbarrett .. I know very few rich writers in the fiscal sense at least and even fewer wealthy poets .. but hey ho say's Roleee we can be rich in so many other ways .. Neville
When I started posting a poet on another site told me that poems need to be read and it is the poet's responsibility to make sure they are. Many poems deemed great are no better than some I have read on this and other sites only that they have had much greater public exposure. thanks so much for the read my friend your words are always valued
Poets are not famous until after they are dead.
Thank you for your remark it is appreciated and in most cases I would agree. Unfortunately some great poems go unrecognized even in death. I have read a few on this and other sites that deserve far more recognition than they get.
There will some amazing pieces of work out there in all the art fields, that have never seen the light of day, undoubtedly their are masterpieces that have passed the world by, enjoyed the read
Thank you Tobani for the read and understanding comment it is appreciated
You are very welcome
lol how wonderful and so true I guess it's like the old saying goes, the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, my own claim is my Italian sonnet, but alas hasn't made my name in fame. 🤣 I love your perfect rhyme forever in awe of your work my dear sorrenbarret 🌹
Thank you so much Teddy for your generous words of encouragement they are most appreciated
Well said. Your poem revolves around the concept of greatness and its dependence on public perception. The poet delves into the relationship between artistic merit (in this case, poetry and literature) and the recognition it receives from society. You seem to suggest that individual works may be technically perfect but achieve true greatness only when they resonate with an audience. The poem highlights the fickleness of acclaim and the importance of public validation in determining what is celebrated or forgotten.
Thank you so much for the read and interpretation that is very much on mark.
You're welcome,sorenbarrett
Wonderful write .
Thank you so much Priya for your encouragement
Great minds think alike and today and I'll be honest always felt, this to my core. There's those that write for freedom and those that do it for wealth, some are lucky it just happens to fall into place.
Great read and brilliant opening line! Your definitely part of my sublime
Thank you so much for the read and support it is most valued
How true it is the saying that one is never truly known until they are gone. A great write!
Thank you so much Shamrocker for the review and understanding words they are appreciated
Good write SB. KP knows what greatness is, of course. She says 'Anything to do with me, me, me'. (That's her, not me myself!) lol. Getting too big for her boots again, so I will give her double helping of sewage for her dinner. Makes sense to me. lol.
Thanks Orchi appreciate the read and go easy on the seasoning in the sewage
That is a woeful truth indeed!
Thank you so much Cryptic
Most welcome Soren
Noe this was confronting and honest. The truth about literature making a writer great. So often after their death if at all theses days. The average reader has a concentration span of 10 seconds.Hardly long enough to read a novel or a poem. Some terrible truths to comtemplate here.Well done
Thank you so much David you are so right attention span so short and many go unread due to so many posted together with the short attention span
Very true words soren but it does not stop us from writing for ourselves.
Andy
So true Andy never felt recognition was that important but I feel bad reading some other poems on this and other sites that deserve to be seen more than they are. How many hidden jewels of art have gone unnoticed. Thanks so much for the read and comment
Voice of every artist who doubts their worth. It is wonderful
Thank you so much for your read and understanding words. Doubt is strong in the face of not being heard when the public turns a deaf ear.
What struck me here, Soren, is the sharp reminder that greatness doesn’t live in isolation…it breathes only when others carry it forward. So profoundly true. The rhyme makes the point land with bite. Nicely done, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛ A fave.
Thank you Tristan for your review and hearing the message it is most gratifying when one is heard
You are most welcome! Thank you for writing it, my friend!
Good day, Soren,
I have often wondered about this, great works of litreture lost, gone for what ever reason, never to behold again and the great poets of today, unrecognised and worthy of greater praise than many who enjoy the applauds of fame. A timely and fitting poem, especially today in a world full of so called critics who enjoy the fame of their own criticisms more so than the arts they refer to. As my late father would have said, wouldn't know a good poem if it hit them in the face, that said, your fellow poet and friend, Tony.
Thanks so much Tony it often pains me to see what is valued by masses today. Not that I am an expert to judge but I have to wonder. I appreciate your read of this humble piece and your understanding. Best to you
