To an old dog

sorenbarrett

One often maligned but faithful and true. Just want to say I miss you
Misunderstandings snaps and a wail, so sorry I stepped on your tail
But I understand my faithful hound no greater friend to man can be found
A neighbor or two you did bite but what the hell, it was in a fair fight
With the courage that others lack, what's wrong, you fearlessly attack
Your bark is stronger than your bite, in a pinch for me you still fight
I've read your papers on which you lay, not allowing me to take them away
As you sleep in dreams of poetic fog, let me say I miss you old dog

Great write - I would miss my little Stanley so much - the best companion I could ask for so loving and always by my side - currently asleep on the arm of a chair after his walk - or should I say our walk.

Thank you Michael I appreciate your read and kind words my friend

It is strange, but I've never heard of a dog stabbing you in the back.
Sadly, can't be said for the other lot. Probably why dogs rock.

Thanks Paul for the review. I have been bit by my own dog but it was my fault not his and he was ashamed of it afterwards. Never stabbed in the back by him, although some salty dogs might. I appreciate your comments my friend

Must admit I've been bitten a few times myself.

Well written, Sorenbarrett. Your poem is about a dog, loyalty, and misunderstanding, but I think it's more about the transformative power of human connection, highlighting how misunderstandings can arise from differing perspectives, and how we can sometimes misinterpret things. Apparently, you miss the person you were corresponding with, and you hold no grudges. Still, instead, you're extending an olive branch, letting that person know it was all just a big misunderstanding, and you genuinely desire to rekindle your friendship.

Thank you Friendship for the read and interpretation it is most appreciated and no more need be said.

Soren, this is a lovely piece. Loyal dog, misunderstood friend, poetic fog...those four-legged, furry companions in our lives who stay true despite everything. Grateful for this one, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛ Makes me think of my ol' dog, Chloe. Just passed in May. 😢

I feel there is way more to this than I want to get involved in, but on a lighter note, years ago my Alsatian put me in hospital when we were playing football, I went to head the ball, she went to head it, I lost she bit into my head. Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Thank you so much my perceptive friend. Years ago I was cutting my English Bulldogs nails, he had a bad hip and when I pulled his foot to cut the nails on it he reflexively bit me in the calf, since I was sitting straddle of him. Realizing what he had done he ran under the dinning table and hung his head. I could never be mad at him, after all it was my fault. Appreciate your comment my friend

The same with mine, it took weeks for her to not look guilty and come back out of her shell, and as you have said it was my fault, take care
