What’s dead is dead;
And said is said.
It’s sad, so sad -
To think and dread -
Of what could’ve been had…
Instead.

- Comment from author about the poem: It’s 2am and I have been restless and unable to fall asleep. Fuck insomnia! 🤩 Anyways, here’s a little poem I wrote a few weeks ago. Contemplative with undertones of longing like always. It’s kind of become my brand at this point. Sending love and joy to any curious fellow reading this note 🤍

Good to see you back Rocky.
Andy
Howdy there! Thanks so much, it’s always such a joy to come back online. It’s like seeing an old friend every time! Hope you’re doing well 🤍✨
A fave for the clever wording in this poem that makes sense but at the same time as sending its message does it in such a catchy alliteration and tongue twisting maneuver. Loved it.
Hello! Thxxx!! I am such an abuser of alliteration! I swear sometimes I feel like an old dog who can’t learn new tricks lol. I appreciate the love tho, hope you’re doing well 🤍
You are most welcome Rocky
Yes, many a time I've thought that.
What will be, will be.
Then she came back.
Hey glad you had a happy ending (or so it seems) lol! There’s so much I which that “could’ve been.” But sometimes we just need to take whatever life throws at us on the chin. Sending you warm regards ✨
I read this as a compact elegy for regret. The repetition (“dead is dead / said is said”) hammers home the finality of both actions and words, that once done, they can’t be taken back. What makes it sting is the turn at the end: the sadness isn’t only about loss, but about the phantom life that might have been lived “instead.” It’s a reminder that regret is often less about the past itself and more about the futures we’ll never get to see. 🕊️🙏
Wow. I am truly blown away and honored by this beautiful analysis of my poem. That is such an insightful and poignant take on it! I love this interpretation and, indeed, the firm repetition is supposed to echo in a haunting way and indicate this mournful view of the poem. Thanks so much for the wonderful comment, have a lovely day 🤍
Most welcome, Rocky. Good to have you back🕊️🙏🏻
I sometimes think our imagination is tragic, allows us to judge on what we think should be rather than what is...like the poem.
Your little note states a plain and simple truth. Who amongst us hasn't been there? Looking forward to more pearls of wisdom, my friend.
Nice
Short and sweet. Nice ✍️
Contemplation and longing always leads to different avenues of thought of what could have been vs what is - and whether that would have been a better option 🤔
Hope you find/have found the right one
