Tune: Irby

('Once in royal David's city')

Luke 1 v.34-38

*******

Angel Gabriel to Mary

Said, Christ-child you shall bear, see

Mary said, How shall this be, for

I am true a virgin sure

The angel answered, replied

It shall be so, I confide

The Holy Ghost shall come upon

You, this is how it be done

The power of the Most High shall

Overshadow you, I tell

Therefore also that holy

One born, the Son of God He

And, behold, your cousin, for she

Has conceived a son, so be

Elisabeth in her old age

Though barren was at that stage

Shall John the Baptist then bare

Glad tidings with you I share

For with God there shall nothing be

Impossible, then Mary

Said, Behold I the handmaiden

Of the Lord, let it be then

To me according unto

His word spoken to me true

A concept so old and tradition born that we think nothing of it and find it the core to religious beliefs. Well written Orchi The Greeks too spoke of Zeus coming upon mortal women and bearing a son as a demigod his name Heracles oh well that is for another season. Loved the poem Orchi it rings true for the seasonal feel.
