Conserving Caretakers

Tune: Song 34

('Forth in thy name, O Lord I go')

Psalm 8

**********

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent

Your name to us that you present

Excellent in all the earth, you

Set glory above heavens true!

Out of mouth of babes and infants

You have perfected praise, good sense

Praise you have ordained as strength so

Vict'ry o'er enemies we know

When I consider the heavens

The work that your fingers attends

The moon and stars, which you ordained

What is man? What you from him gained?

For what is man, that you do mind

Him? Seek him out, and do him find?

What are children of men, that you

Visit and care for them, you do?

For you have made man a little

Lower than angels, crowned him all

With glory and honour, him made

To rule over your works displayed

In care-taking role, oxen, sheep

Beasts, birds, and fish, them for to keep

To be diligent, O Lord, how

Excellent still your name is now!

A poem of reflection where man questions why his creator would take such notice of him. In todays world it seems a bit self deprecatory but in the old days this deference was and expected sign of humility. Nicely done Orchi

Orchi… Popeye, Obi, Tom, and Company stumble in first. Popeye is absolutely holding his own in a glugging contest…conserving nothing, obviously. Obi is calmly knitting tube socks like this is a normal Tuesday…until Obi Wan, oi be, mistook one for a lightsaber sheath and, well…that incinerated fast. Conserving Caretakers? More like Unconserving Sock Takers for a hot second. 🤣

But then the poem pulls me back. The gravity settles. What you’ve done with Psalm 8 here is reverent without being stiff…faithful without being fragile. The care-taking role lands with real weight, and the closing returns us to awe where we belong. Beautifully held, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Thank you T. No use us asking P & Co about this - they're too busy.... don't finish that! lol.

Well done again. Bear with me. I do believe Angels and Saints are living beings to be found in our lives. Definitely in the afterlife guiding us. Creatures and children are the closest to God. Eden exists in the humanly untamed natural world.

Told ya to “Bear with me.”. It’s good to see you write psalm like words again.

Thank you J. Yes, 'saints' can also simply mean 'Christian believers'.
