You think you’ve got troubles?

Doggerel Dave

Let’s be absolutely right here -

I can’t get my meaning quite clear.

I don’t know if I’m dyslexic,

Perhaps cack handed, take your pick.

I can’t spell, that is for certain

With Spell Check sometimes a burden.

There’s whole letters on the keyboard

My fingers have often ignored.

Words do double up on the page,

‘Telling ya it ain’t just old age…

“Publish poem” becomes the goal

Though there’s ages before it’s whole…

A jolly old encourager

Tells me kindly (I will find her!)

That it’s not the destination

But the journey!! Oh damnation…

Dave true it is the journey is the whole of it. Nicely said.

  • Doggerel Dave

    I do it anyway.

Dave, this made me smile, my friend. There’s warmth and self-awareness here that carries the piece, typos and all. The joy is in the telling, and it comes through clearly. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

    • Doggerel Dave

Warming encouragement, Tristan: Keep up the good work, please! 🙏😊

That journey of life brings so many things to you Dave, the bad brings you answers and experince the good bring you pleasure, pleasure will always be there at the end, may that pleasure fill your life with joy.

Waxing all philosophical again, Andy?.....Wot about that joke?

        • orchidee

Just as a light joke - dyslexics believe there is a dog / god - it's Fido! lol.

          • Doggerel Dave

Fido - He who dispenses all truth, provides all mercies........... git him in 'ere - I want a quiet word.....

🤣 perfectly philosophical delivery of "That it’s not the destination
            But the journey!!"
            and then came in
            "Oh damnation…"
A googly which would have made the bowler pat his own back.

            • Doggerel Dave

I have very poor balance. It is an occasional project of mine to provide other people with a similar sensation in a virtual sense, particularly when they write in metaphors..
(I haven't really responded to your comment, merely riffed off it. Best I can do - sorry).

That sounds like what my beloved late daddy used to say, until sometimes I wonder whether I should take a different route so I can enjoy the journey instead of chafing while I look for the destination. You don't want dyslexia, I have it. It's nasty. I carry whiteout because of it. As for writing poetry, study examples of the form you desire to follow and practice until you too can write in the chosen form. Or?
Beautifully rendered with excellent good humor and lovely imagery not to mention sheer winsomeness to charm. Thank you for sharing.

Yeh - I am interested in forms but haven't got an absolute favourite one...and besides by the time I've struggled through the hazards documented above the whole lot may have gone out the window and down the gurgler.....
Ever grateful for your attention to detail, Missy.

Use good old paper and pencil, hint, hint...

                  • Doggerel Dave

Listen, I can't never find me glasses and lost me pen, neva mind finding a bloody pencil.... scarce as hen's teeth these days.....

                    • Cheeky Missy

                      Hmmm.

                      • Doggerel Dave

Hum Us a tune.... a rebel tune...

                        • Cheeky Missy

                          Yankee Doodle went to town/
                          Riding on a pony/
Stuck a feather in his cap/
                          And called it macaroni...

                          • Doggerel Dave

oh dear - did you have to cite one with such a complicated history? Real rabbit hole stuff.

I'm an American. My ancestors were here BEFORE 1776.

You are on your own there then - I love my old armchair too much to go exploring that far back...

You now need a spell checker to check the spell checker has got it right.
Strap up for your journey, destination unknown, sat nav not working, the world is nigh.

The world? Well they can feel like one of NASA's fizzers... all that work and... spell checker parachute no 2 ain't working either...

Ralph was bang on wasn't he .. and thanks ever so for including the term cack handed in a poem mate, I haven't heard that expression for yonks my dear old dad used it all the time .. Neville

                                  • Doggerel Dave

Yes he was. T'was it's use in that context which gave it a momentarily different shine. Cack handed? Nothing like a wee bit of ancient nostalgia occasionally to bring the thing to...
